I sold 2 lenses this week, my 17-40 F4 L and 28 F2.8 I used the money from the sale (plus a bit of credit) to order the 16-35 F2.8 L and 100-400 L IS, they both arrived today. I will post some shots after the weekend. I have a wedding to shoot on saturday so I can test the 16-35 L there, but I will have to wait till Sunday to try out the 100-400.

Congrats on the new glass.
Personally, there will be a wait for 16-35 but in the meantime the 100-400 is providing good service. I'm sure you'll like it as well.

Here's a shot I took yesterday from the 2nd deck at SBC Park in San Fran.

I'm curious to know, what made the 16 worth twice the 17 to you?

That's a good question, but for me the extra stop means alot. I do a lot available light shots at weddings and it's the difference between having to shoot at ISO 800 and 400. I need the extra light gathering that the 2.8 offers. I loved the 17-40 but it just was not fast enough for my shooting style.
I can't wait to test out the 16-35 tomorrow, wish me luck!

As Dave Allen (Irish Commedian) used to say, may your God go with you. I would be interested to hear whether it cut the mustard.

I guess in weddings, a stop is worth a lynching!

are you mad? take it with you, you know you want to! you can hang way out of the way and zoom right into the unsuspecting gathering...might get some good shots that way. when people are more relaxed that you're not milling around with a camera so close to them might relax them somewhat. and the IS means you can handhold down a few stops more...I manage to get away with at least 1/60, once in a while 1/30...
