Cute photo!
You might want to drop your saturation down a bit though as the skin tone is coming off a bit 'orange'.

And WELCOME into the POTN pool!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Nice photo great colours, though I agree with Feihung08 about the saturation levels.

Welcome ! !
..and as the youngster in the photo instinctly knows, whether you're going in a pool or going into an online photography forum, it's good to enter with style. :-)

Thanks for the comments...will adjust the saturation levels.
Believed I used the auto tune settings, maybe I should go manual.

See, I'm learning already...thanks to you.

Thank you

There you go Bama!
What kind of camera are you using?
And you could adjust the saturation AFTER you've taken the picture as well in Photoshop or one of the many MANY photo manipulation software. (not sure if you know that or not, if so, disregard!)

Hi FeiHung08,

Tried again in photoshop Cs, what do you think?

I have the Canon 20D with 580Ex...gift from my hubby. I was previously using the T90 and have decided to retire it for good.
now, I'm trying to learn what digital is all about.

Nice shot Bama! I actually like the saturation in #1, but i agree with FeiHung. The color temperature might be a little high IMHO. :) Try lower the color temp just a bit and see if it gets rid of the orange layer.
I'm a newbie too BTW. http://www.initial-d.com/forums/images/smilies/sweat.gif

Yeah, I'd say that looks better.........there's seems to be more detail in it and a more natural look to it. The water looks more blue now too and less 'chlorine green'!

Sounds like your hubby REALLY loves you!! ;)
What a great setup to start your slr digital world!!

Thanks...now, I'm wondering who I love more, the gift or my hubby;)
The gift apart from the camera+flash includes the 70-200/F4L, the 17-40/F4L + the 500D.
Good start, huh?

Thank you

Very nice capture Bama. I have kids of my own, and they're great models (when they allow you to take pictures of them that is).

I maybe would have gone this route (hope you don't mind)

Wonderful child, excellent capture. I'd be more inclined to fill more of the frame with the subject.

Dave

Hi DOrtiz,

Why should I mind, after all a newbie like me is in this forum to learn.
Iwould say that the framing do look good as it shows out the main subject well.

Thank you for taking the trouble and time to teach.

Thank you
Bama

Hi Bama:

We all started learning at one point or another. In fact, I'm still learning and would venture to say we're "all" constantly learning. You did good, and the capture is indeed a very nice image. Also by framing I don't mean the actual black/white frame "around" your picture, but the composition (placement of the subject within the picture frame itself).

Keep up the great work, and if there's anuthing I can do on this end, don't hesitate to ask.

Regards,
Dave

Just be careful around these parts Dave! One of the Forum rules is NOT to mess with anyone's posted shots unless they ok it 'first'! Just FYI.
Some people have put disclaimers in their signatures stating that it's ok to modify anything they post up. I'm thinking of doing the same.

But on another note, did you apply an ample amount of USM to that as well?

Feihung08,

I believe one's "intent" when enhancing another person's image is to offer ways on how to make the capture look better. I believe the "author" of the image said she doesn't mind, as neither would I nor anyone else seeking "advice" and/or "suggestions" on their posting. USM was applied, along with other enhancing methods.

Dave

No, your right Dave, but rules are rules, and I can tell you I found out the hard way that not ALL folks appreciate their shots being manipulated without their permission! Some took it as an insult!
Anyway, this is all just FYI I swear! I personally don't care and really like your version of Bamma's great pool shot!

But just so you know I'm not making this up here's the exerpt from [here] (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=51022)........
If you do not get a written permission to edit that photo, you may not edit that photo and post the edited photo back. This applies ALL FORUMS. Giving the permission can be simply "post processing examples welcome."

If you ask me, that's quite a dumb rule when it comes to folks wanting to "HELP" others! I certainly wouldn't take offense. Infact, many have edited my work on http://dpreview.com (http://dpreview.com/) and I've NEVER taken offense to it -- I've "LEARNED" from it instead and have ALWAYS been grateful for the edited version and how it was done.

However, I understand what you mean, have read that portion of the "rules" but feel that "rule" should read the other way around. If one DOESN'T want critique/help when it comes to editing their photos, perhaps they should say so on the onset.

That's because MOST people are "visual" and prefer to SEE how things can better their work as opposed to "reading" about it. I know I am ... I would prefer to see a properly composed (framed) image than be told about it.

Just my .02 cents!

Dave

Hi DOrtiz,

Thank you for the reply. So sorry that the post was not replied as I was travelling.
Tried to reply but it seems that I could only read but cannot reply as the system did not permit it.

Do agree that the post/picture can be enhanced if one wants to help as it shows a another perspective view. This is part of photography...learning to understand how to be better and learning to see "things" in another view point. IMHO, this should help in developing one skills.

Can you elaborate how you did the enhancement, especially the parameters in USM.

I will be off-station again in the coming Monday, thus, please accept my apologies in advance.

Thank you,
Bama
