Shot these on my backyard fence. Is this the male? There were two birds constantly flying to and from their nest in a nearby tree. Everytime they returned to the tree, I could hear the screaching of the babies hoping to get a morsel of food. Thanks for looking! C&C welcome.

Species? Aphelocoma californica or western scrub-jay near as I can tell. If so, my book doesn't distinguish between a male and a female scrub-jay.
Nice capture. :)
[Edit: Looks like someone beat me to it. :D ]

Thanks for the ID and comments. Here's what I think is the mom scrub-jay.

Looks more like the kid, than Mom. They're very cool birds... bring peanuts next time.

Well ,that shows how much I know about birds! Makes sense cause this fellow was perched on the fence for the longest time and those feathers sure ruffled up in the wind. I just never imagined the babies would be that big. This one was almost as big as the male. I pictured these little guys in the nest with their eyes still shut and their mouths wide open. The male also came over by the young bird on the fence and ruffed him up a little--almost knocking him off the fence. I got shots of this but they weren't clear. Guess he was teaching him something! Geez....I gotta get out more! :) Thanks for the lesson Lazy!
