Bracket/Hood

I am making a bracket for off camera flash use.It would appear that with this bracket and the now capability of getting the flash in position nearer the subject, the shadow one would experience with the hood and on camera flash,,,,,,,,,,brings forth the question now that the hood can be used,is there really any advantage to using the hood and why.

I have never used a hood on my macro lenses but have once or twice had to shade the lens with my hand. You wouldn't expect to be using one with flash but may need to if doing lower mag natural light shots slightly into the sun.

Well I knew or felt sure most all of your shots were without hood but I had seen a couple of posts where folks were wanting to use the hood and I was trying to get a clarification.Thanks for all your help.
