I've been running a website for around 8 months now, and all my friends constantly complain that I don't have any pictures of myself. Well I'm camera shy (ironic, I know) so I've never put any up. Recently I decided to take a self portrait. What I came up with wasn't good enough, but the eyes were good, so I decided to just take those. Long story short, the image ended up undergoing some selective desaturation, and a color change in photoshop. I'm happy to say that i'm quite pleased with the results. Let me know what you think.
The image in my eyes is the camera on a tripod.

Bigdave -
Nice shot. I like it. It almost looks like it could be a poster for the next X-Men (Wolverine Logan) - the man with the knives coming out of his hands?
Good job.

Very good, Dave. The low-key flesh tones add a sense of mystery as well and really make the eyes stand out.

I really like the choice of blue you used. It looks like Dodge blue.:)

Well Dave, as the saying goes , "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
WHy not dedicate this image to your wife/girlfriend where an appropriate label might be "I only have eyes for you".

Well I'm only 18, so it's a little early for me to be taking any vows. And I would dedicate it to a girl, except for the fact that a few people have said it's a creepy photo. Hehehe, I guess I'm happy so long as the photo has SOME effect on the viewer. I'm glad you all liked my picture and thank many thanks for your encouraging comments.

in photoshop, use the circular selection & polygon selector to select the eyes
copy and paste to a new layer
select original layer Image > Adjustments > Desaturate
select eyes layer and use outer/inner glow effects (black) if things don't look so natural
change the eye color Image > Adjustments > hue/saturation - colorize, slide bars till you get the color and darkness you want

BigDave,
Question....do you use Photoshop 7.0? I have photo Element 2.0 and can't seem to find those effect even with your directions. Doesn't seem to work.

I use Photoshop 7.0 actually. I'm not really familiar with Photo Elements, but I'd assume it has most of Photoshop's basic features although they may be located elsewhere in the program. If the software you're using won't quite doing the job, I will make this one time offer to do the manipulation for you on my computer. After all, it's the least I can do after stealing your girlfriend ;).
