Hey guys,
So my Zeikos grip will be here today for my T1i. But, I don't think the canon battery I ordered will be here today as well. And of course I want to test out the grip to make sure everything is in working order. Is it safe to use a battery grip with only 1 battery instead of 2? I don't wanna screw my camera up..

No problems using a single battery. When I had my gripped XT I never used two batteries. I used my grip for handling and ergonomic reasons, not for the extra battery capacity.

Same here, been using my XSi with a grip with 1 battery for over a year. As crn stated, it's more about handling then battery performance. Plus 2 batteries do get pretty heavy.

What kind if battery are you using?
A BP511 weighs only approximateley 80 grams.
Not exactly a back breaker.

1 OEM Canon battery and 2 Phottix 3rd party batteries. Granted the extra weight of two batteries instead of one isn't huge but it feels unbalanced in a way, personal opinion more than anything. And nothing compared to my 7D lol.

I've got a gripped T1i and use 2 batteries. Weight doesn't affect me much and I never worry about a battery change! I own 4 batteries and swap out after a full discharge, always with two fully charged standing by!
