Hi Heather.

I was SO mad at K&H this morning. Really mad. I left them in the house while I went to the garage to clean up the mess (they are in the garage from 4:30am until I get up) and I was yelling out there. Something I'm not prone to do but I was really mad. So I finish cleaning up their mess. I opened up the door and they were both sitting there, EYES HUGE! I grabbed my coffee and sat down and they tried to jump on my lap. I wouldn't let them. They just sat there all stunned...then Kona walked over, eyes all expressive, ears down and put his head on my lap...it was a total "I'm sorry mom...I can't remember what I did but whatever it was, I'm really sorry."

Book Description:The town psychiatrist has decided to switch everybody in Pine Cove, California, from their normal antidepressants to placebos, so naturally -- well, to be accurate, artificially -- business is booming at the local blues bar. Trouble is, those lonely slide-guitar notes have also attracted a colossal sea beast named Steve with, shall we say, a thing for explosive oil tanker trucks. Suddenly, morose Pine Cove turns libidinous and is hit by a mysterious crime wave, and a beleaguered constable has to fight off his own gonzo appetites to find out what's wrong and what, if anything, to do about it.

Evening folks.

Sitting here getting my SIL's computer sorted out. Cleaning out junk and putting an internet protection suite on it. Can you all believe that she's had this computer since 2005 or 2006 with NO virus scanner or firewall software!?! Only had the stock Windows Firewall with XP  No viruses were found using homescan or McAfee, but when I got Spybot in there, it found 425 "potential problems". I bet Ad-Aware will find several more.

what about March 17th? You could dress up in green and have a pint of Guinness to celebrate too!!

Oh, and you can join me at the "not so cool table", I don't have an FB page either.

Only if you dress as a leprechaun first.

Best place i've been to, in the US, where light pollution is at it's least amount is Mt Washington in upstate NH. Nearest city is hours away, and there are only tiny towns nearby...
Or, my back yard :D. I can see several stars on a clear night, though I don't ever recall seeing the Milky Way. I'll have to remember to look next time I'm outside.

Afternoon kids. Bobert, March is a great month to have a kid!!

English Vs American English:

Oh man that was funny!

I had a large poster print done up at Costco, it came out GREAT! 20x30 for 8.99, you upload a bunch of photos to a folder and they create the collage, if you don't like how they chose the photos hit shuffle. I really like the way it came out *and* that I didn't have to obsess over where the photos were going and what size to make them!
Neat....I'll have to try that one day.

I would try Adorama, Kody; they do a great job with prints, it might look nice on metallic paper. Did you download the costco printer profile or make sure that they don't color correct the image automatically?
I ordered a few metallic prints of Evan to see how they came out.

I have a math puzzle for you all! The answer is suppose to open an attachment. So, I'll plug in all your answers and we will see who gets it right.

They say only people with an IQ with 120 and over are able to figure this
out.

If:
2 + 3 = 10
7 + 2 = 63
6 + 5 = 66
8 + 4 = 96

Then:

9 + 7 = ??
My IQ is 119 so I wouldn't be able to figure it out....though, saw the answer when others figured it out.

This is pretty cool.

HOLY RETINAL DAMAGE BATMAN!!! MY EYES!!

I concur.

Sigh. I decided to start mii fit today.
I have the mii fit age of a 59 year old. My balance is bad. I'm obese. Yeah, I've been dieting too. waaay discouraged now.

gonna ski instead
Don't you hate when you step on the balance board and it says "Oooo" like it's adjusting to your weight.

I believe you, Lonnie!!! Got the same sun shining bright here. and 40 degrees. It's a gorgeous warm day. I have just the screen door shut, letting that warm air in.
I don't know where you're from where you think 40 degrees and warm air fit in the same sentence. :|

A quick snap out the door. Zoë is moving warp speed out there, too fast to capture lol.
Dang she's havin' fun!

Look how great Star looks!
That the one that was really skinny.

And the Kirb-meister
Awww

now it's time for a "how to" show on crop circles:

Thing's you'll need:
A light plank (4-6 feet in length) with a rope (10-12 feet) knotted through holes in each end. Alternatively, you may prefer to buy a light garden roller from a garden centre. (I'm too cheap to buy a roller...a board will do)
A surveryors reel measuring tape as it doesnt stretch. Rope or nylon can be used but may stretch and make wobbly edges to circles. (My circle edges will probably be wobbly anyway, since the balance board made note of my falling down a lot )
Marking poles - paint tips white to aid visibility at night (wonders if flame boy will volunteer for this job instead)
Protractor for measuring angles (it's just way wrong to say "bring a protractor" I mean come on...are we alien nerds or what EYEBALL it for heaven's sake...)
Measuring tape (100 ft) (This of course means just that...measuring tape...scotch tape, painters tape...and for all you handymen out there...duck tape...WILL NOT DO)
Night-vision goggles (optional) - your eyes adjust to complete dark in 20 minutes. (Oh sure...everyone has a pair of these in a drawer somewhere...comes in handy for those late night trips to the fridge when you & your partner are dieting and you don't want them to know you are sneaking...)
Laser-pointer to assist placing markers (optional) (This is optional? EVERYONE wants to play with lasers...but nooooooo the archaic instructions make protractors a necessity and lasers an option? yeah...beam me up Scotty...)
A really good imagination! (rdn) (Dan...you're needed on wheat field 3...)
 so when are we all headin' out to do some crop circles?!

How about a few pics of the dogs with the crazy looks they can get while playing.

This pit was fun. Cisco loves chasing/herding anything that will run away from him.
And if they won't run away he gives them the evil eye.
LOL!! Fun shots of Cisco Eric!

Canadians seem to have their own way of doing things.

This (http://www.wimp.com/canadiansmilk/) actually is a pretty good idea.
Pssh! I've had milk from a bag while in school...the school officials decided that it was a cost saving measure to get rid of the cartons.

You don't have to leave the country to see something different. When I was a kid (pre-civil war era), we would visit my aunt & uncle in Wisconsin. Apparently there was a law against making margarine that looked like butter. It wasn't actually yellow, and in its natural state, looked more like lard. It was sold in a plastic bag with a little blob of food coloring. The idea was to knead the bag of margarine to mix in the dye. Then, it looked like butter.

Gosh I hope not.

I went to bed, and now I'm here. I'm tired too as I didn't sleep much last night.

I found out today that after much gnashing of teeth to get my parents into a facility where my SIL has privileges they have scheduled a vacation for the first week they will be there. This is all because my mom has a mind of her own and wants her and my father's care directed in a different way than my SIL does. So when my mom and dad are both moved into the facility and for my moms 75th birthday which will be spent IN the facility, they will be out of town with their kids.

We are lucky to not get fleas or ticks. It's just the stimulation for him. When he gets bored with that he'll go find a toy to chew on, or a shoe, or toilet paper, or paper out of the office trash, or Toby, or Piggy. Then we go for a walk and all is well.

I found a cat breeder in NJ that breeds Bengals called Tailspin Cattery...think its fate?

Yes! Get one!

Sigh. I decided to start mii fit today.
I have the mii fit age of a 59 year old. My balance is bad. I'm obese. Yeah, I've been dieting too. waaay discouraged now.

gonna ski instead :|

Is mii fit part of wii fit?

<-----so wants to get wii fit.

Plecostomus do a good job keeping aquarium glass clean. Maybe you could genetically alter a few to live on the outside of your windows.

ROFLMAO!

Suggesting genetic alteration to your kin.

LOL!! I KNOW.
I was so discouraged after getting it set up. Seriously. The first thing it tells you is about your balance. Then it tells you re: your weight (my case: obese) & bmi then it tells you your mii fit age (my case: 59). Then it starts you out with exercises fitting your health. I'm SURE that it's all good but holy obese old cow, it doesn't put you in the mood to exercise. So I went skiing.

*snort*

I got on it and the screen said, "One of you will have to get off the device before proceeding." I was so mad I ate it.

ROFLMAO!

Permie, my Wii fit tells me that I'm 39 as well...I swear the thing ONLY bases its estimate on age. So I'm not coordinated, shoot me. Course, the BMI and weight confirmation that I got....yeah.

Try the hula hooping and the um....shoot. I forget what its called but tis crunches. I also got to free step, so I put some punk on the ipod and do about 20 minutes of free step. Twill kick you in the backside the first couple of times, but feels good! I'm making some progress....60 days to goal and MIGHT make goal weight.

YAY!

3 dogs adopted today:

Jazzy. One of our newer dogs, and the mama of 7 pups that we're taking to HWAC this coming week.

And Suzie. Our little three-legged wonder girl! WOO HOO!

All in all, a great day. :)

Rock on!

And I have lost some weight. ;)

YAY! But, make time to get your hair done for you. You are doing the new mom thing and forgetting to make Cat time.

Yep! We've found homes for some hard cases. Luna should be an easy one by comparison!

Do you remember the story of us going to to that FULL shelter because they were putting dogs down, but they would only let us 'choose' from 5 dogs? And we ended up taking that senior border collie, who was mostly deaf? Who had been beaten?

SHE got adopted. By a most wonderful amazing loving family. Total tears when that one happened.

If Sasha can find a home... anyone can.

Night Becks!

Yay for Sasha!

<----------looking forward to summer when can wear the freaky red sandal thingies (how odd..."thingies" is an actual word....makes note for scrabble)

Me too! I like your freaky red sandal thingies and I've been wanting to get some....I've just been too cheap. Those puppies are $$$$

Not to interupt the shenanigans, but has anyone seen Fafa?

Yep.

not once in my whole life..

True...

Last I saw of her....she was in a cloud of sanding dust, varnish and children's toys.

That^^^^

Hi Ick, Diane.
Yup, snow. I had a subcontractor tell me he was stuck, again:roll:, no way out, I would need to fill his morning slots. I called his bluff and said I would come pull him out, I haven't heard back  I filled his route.

HAHAHHAHAHA.....what a dumbass. Reminds me of the character from That 70s show that keeps making those lame excuses and Red keeps firing.

Pass the BUTTER PLEASE and remember, butter is a food, margarine is a chemical.

True that!

Sleepover boy is home, none the worse for the wear. Now we'll have to peddle him off on a regular basis!!

Yay and yes, you will!

#1 there is great Jamie! I'll bet they're pleased with the images...looks like you had fun.

That!!!

Ditto that, couple of you usually help me decide on different processing for a specific image as well. Idk about you guys, but I'm grateful as all heck to have that network....love helping you guys with it as well.

I heart having you to bounce stuff off of.

As her unappointed critiquer, I get to tell her things like, "It would be funny if you changed her hair blue in Photoshop" or "Let me draw in an elephant in the background just to see if they notice" or "Crop the shot so it's just their noses. Say it's the new craze in portraiture."

You know, stuff like that.

ROFLMAO!

I need an opinion.....

I got inspired this morning, and decided to make hot bacon dressing. It turned out incredibly well. I had two helpings of salad, and none of the beef stew. :o:o Even so, I still have almost 2 cups of the dressing left over. It's too good to throw out, so I want to save it, but I'm not sure how best to do that. Obviously refrigeration is involved, but can it be frozen?

Opinions?

My opinion.....yum!

Ours, too!! I've stopped eating there since they stopped serving that dressing. Lois and I would buy the salad bar, and just have a party.

Let me find the recipe for you (I downloaded it this morning).

Found it!!

HOT BACON DRESSING (Hudson's)

5 slices bacon, diced
1/2 c. finely chopped yellow onion
vegetable oil
2 t. corn starch mixed with 2 t. water
1/2 c. white vinegar
1/2 c. water
1/4 c. sugar
salt and pepper to taste

Fry bacon til crisp. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside. Add onion to bacon fat in pan and cook 5 minutes til onion is soft. With a slotted spoon, add onion to bacon. Pour bacon fat into a measuring cup and add vegetable oil to equal 1/2 c. Add bacon fat to cornstarch mixture and reserve. Combine vinegar, water, sugar, salt and pepper in a small saucepan and heat to a boil. Add cornstarch mixture and cook til thickened (1-2 minutes). Remove from heat and add bacon and onion. Use while warm.
(makes 1 1/2 cups)

I increased the recipe by about 25%, and that's part of the reason I have so much left now. I suspect it won't last very long, so saving it long term is not really an issue this time, but I'm always on the lookout for ways to make things in big quantities and store them for future use.

Yummy!

I love some hot bacon dressing on spinach.

I went shopping today and got things for dinner this week, but was so tired and hungry by the time we got home I ordered take out italian!!

I know we all have complained about the wedding forum before, but I must say I posted some e shots over there and actually got some very kind, blunt and good comments. WOW!

But....you are a moderator and can hit the ban button.....maybe it keeps people in line. :p

This guy is *such* an ass!!

Yes, yes he is.

I had to quit reading the 24-70 thread....the OP is such a troll it could be Ken Rockhead in disguise....

Heehee.

I need some help.

Yes, yes you do!

Jamie what help do you need? I can punch someone for you if you want.

ROFLMAO!

 Our school district had a mix of reel to reel, laser disc and VCR. Though the core teaching material movies were reel to reel. The VCR only came in if and when some company updated the movie which was rare at the time. The laser disc was used when we were learning a subject which required user interaction with the remote to click on answers. I remember pulling many hours of reel to reel projector watch during classes at the ready to hit the switch to stop the projector in case it decided to try and eat the film.

Hi Harm!

We had an INSANE weekend here. We tackled lots of projects:

*hung wallpaper on studio wall
*put quarter round on studio floor
*refinished studio floor
*hung light in new bathroom
*hung medicine cabinet in new bathroom
*ripped up carpet in office
*fixed warped ceiling tiles in office
*patched whole in plaster due to window being removed

And, still lots left....
*sanding stupid drywall joints
*putting trim up
*painting ceiling
*painting walls
*CLEANING....ugh
*maybe getting shower installed

Corey worked like a madman this past weekend. But, he knows he had lots to do and he's dinking off most of this coming weekend. So, it's all good.

AND, I found a friend who LOVES doing the edging when painting so she's going to come help me paint and do that part for me. She already fixed where I messed up my bathroom.

Nice set there Tiff.

On another note, especially for other Smuggers here, I saw a button on the fly-out menu that I saw last night looking through Evan's shots I have online. It's the "Collect Photo" button...explanation here (http://www.smugmug.com/help/collecting-photos). It's new to me and I did not know about it until this weekend....essentially, it allows users to "collect" a virtual copy of the photo and put it on their website in a gallery....My Inspirations...for example if ALL the criteria are met at the end of the page I linked above. So check your settings for your galleries. Now, that's flattering, but I hope that it will not circumvent right click protect and/or printing off a shot without getting some money out of it.

So, I disabled it through control panal/settings for now until I can read through this thread and see if my questions are answered.

http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=157266&highlight=collect+photoI think it is new. It's subject to all your other permissions though. I don't allow linking or copying from any of my public galleries and unless I'm logged it even my pre-existing galleries don't show the "Collect" button. In fact one of the requirements to let other people "Collect" your photos is that you allow external linking oof the galleries in question.

All virtual copies honor the settings of the original. If you apply watermarks, set prices, limit the largest size, etc., the virtual copies will inherit those settings.

Taken from this blog post: http://blogs.smugmug.com/release-notes/2010/01/27/smart-galleries/ which of course was linked in the 1st post of that thread on DGrin I linked up in my previous post. Nice. Now I think I am going to tinker with the new feature before I enable...though it does help with exposure to more folks if someone collects your photo to display on their website and it is bought by a passer-by that had not found your website.

Been playing with it - I keep photos that I post to in a separate gallery that's unlisted and has sharing enabled. If I collect a photo from a "share disabled" gallery into my sharing gallery, I can get a link for it. For instance, this photo's in a sharing-disabled gallery, Collected to my share gallery:
http://jonbarrettphoto.smugmug.com/Travel/Greece-1/1114-169-696620D-02/537219575_vk7Lz-L-2.jpg

Next I need to see if Collecting from a "sharing enabled" gallery to a "sharing disabled" one carries the "share" status along, or if the destination controls it.

Yeah, I also have a gallery set to share photos here with sharing enabled and also unlisted like you. Nice feature for site owners to get photos shared between galleries to share on here....I'm gonna have to remember that to keep from waiting for a copy to transfer between galleries...way less clicks.

Post up your experiment results
I want to tinker right now, but I need to work...been working through lunch...only 30 mins left for lunch and I have not eaten yet! Gotta eat now......I'm gonna try to play with it a little tonight while I get other photos uploaded. DRAGON. I meant to ask you. Have you ever read any Nevada Barr books? They are really good. Track of the Cat is the first one and my least favorite. Had I read it first, I probably wouldn't like her books but I didn't. She writes in a way that makes you think you are there. Whether it's being stuck in caves underground or diving shipwrecks on the great lakes. She's very good.

these two remain favorites of mine :D
Hmmm. I think I read one a long time ago...I will check her out, thanks!

ZANE you might have stayed up just a tad too long, Hobbies is next door:oops:Yeah, apparently, LOL.

I generally prefer Bulgarian military signal flares, but those are nice.LOL Don't mess with Hungarian surplus smoke grenades, they are bunk. The ones that do go off will gag an iron lung. The writing is all in Hungarian so for all I know they were poison gas, not smoke *shrug* Stay away from them, bad trip.

Cool....got the same effect of the single shots with a roman candle. I like the multiple trace shots.

Wow Zane... the first and second ones are outstanding.Yes they do, with a good 200 yard range.
Thanks on the horses. They were for next door but got miss delivered

really beautiful location too! Is this near you? It has a lovely feel to it. Looks like a lot of fun...but I'm surprised no one asked....

where the heck does one find surplus Czechoslovakian military signal flares?

Loved them all. The lighting is so perfect in all of these shots. The comp is great. You can tell that you are passionate about them...it comes across in the shots. It is a really pretty spot on public land up by the barn. When people buy fishing equipment, hunting gear, and ammunition there is a federal tax that takes money to put towards conservation. The money is often used to buy public land that is managed for hunting and fishing. It creates great habitat and around here the land is used by non hunters just as much as hunters. Where we were is somewhat remote and the chances of any official response is low. Had someone showed up I would have explained it was a photo project and been fine.
Here are some flares and the launcher I have if you are looking into getting one. The Czechs make good illumination parachute flares too.

Thanks on the horses.

Last night was a plethora of bad dreams. In one, I dreamed Hale had puppies (she's fixed) that were too big and she died. They were irish setter and black lab puppies. No springers. Is that not just weird? I also dreamed my computer got a virus and I couldn't access the web at all. Or fix it. There were lots more...some worse...gah. What a night.

*waves*

Yo

Thanks for the nice horse comments Terri and others, I lost a few quotes or didn't hit the button

OHMYGOSH! My brother got to go home today. They never moved him down from ccu to icu or a regular room. Anyway, he's home and they are getting the paperwork done for a rehab facility. He has to go or lose his job. I'm hoping he'll be compliant and try to get something out of it.
