very cool Zane. How did you fire them and still be able to take photos?30 second exposure at f/10 200 ISO Mirror lock up>shutter>step aside and fire>let camera finish exposure.I have something somewhat different in my head and think I can get it.
OHMYGOSH! My brother got to go home today. They never moved him down from ccu to icu or a regular room. Anyway, he's home and they are getting the paperwork done for a rehab facility. Ok question:
I have downloaded a DOF ap for my blackberry.
If I input:
Format: 1.6
Focal Length: 40mm
Aperture: f/11
Distance: 10 feet. (I am assuming that is the distance between the camera and the subject)
Click Calculate and get:
Near Limit: 7.13
Far Limit: 16.78
Total: 9.66
Hyperfocal distance 24.42
That means that everything from 7.13' to 16.78' infront of the camera will be in focus?
And that for a perpendicular distance of 24.42' (12.21' left and right of center) will be in focus?

When you focus on the hyperfocal distance....in this case 24.42 feet....everything from 1/2 that distance to infinity will be in focus....so from 12.21 feet to forever.

DRAGON. I meant to ask you. Have you ever read any Nevada Barr books? They are really good. Track of the Cat is the first one and my least favorite. Had I read it first, I probably wouldn't like her books but I didn't. She writes in a way that makes you think you are there. Whether it's being stuck in caves underground or diving shipwrecks on the great lakes. She's very good.

G'mae all. Anyone follow the "post your cat" thread? http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=9515179&postcount=4436
Cute...
On another note, especially for other Smuggers here, I saw a button on the fly-out menu that I saw last night looking through Evan's shots I have online. It's the "Collect Photo" button...explanation here (http://www.smugmug.com/help/collecting-photos). It's new to me and I did not know about it until this weekend....essentially, it allows users to "collect" a virtual copy of the photo and put it on their website in a gallery....My Inspirations...for example if ALL the criteria are met at the end of the page I linked above. So check your settings for your galleries. Now, that's flattering, but I hope that it will not circumvent right click protect and/or printing off a shot without getting some money out of it.
So, I disabled it through control panal/settings for now until I can read through this thread and see if my questions are answered.
http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=157266&highlight=collect+photo
I'm not going to try to read through 17 pages of thread (at last look) to find answers.
I think it is new. It's subject to all your other permissions though. I don't allow linking or copying from any of my public galleries and unless I'm logged it even my pre-existing galleries don't show the "Collect" button. In fact one of the requirements to let other people "Collect" your photos is that you allow external linking oof the galleries in question.
I turned it off until I can figure out if it can be to my benefit. I also can't see any use, at first glance, for the "Smart galleries" feature.
Been playing with it - I keep photos that I post to in a separate gallery that's unlisted and has sharing enabled. If I collect a photo from a "share disabled" gallery into my sharing gallery, I can get a link for it. For instance, this photo's in a sharing-disabled gallery, Collected to my share gallery:
http://jonbarrettphoto.smugmug.com/Travel/Greece-1/1114-169-696620D-02/537219575_vk7Lz-L-2.jpg
Next I need to see if Collecting from a "sharing enabled" gallery to a "sharing disabled" one carries the "share" status along, or if the destination controls it.
This is possibly the only thing I can see of benefit to me from this new "Collecting" feature. I've been looking for a way to be able to link my photos to places like here, but not allow other to link my photos.
Do you have linking turned off in the original gallery, but turned on in the sharing gallery?

Experiment: The original of this photo is in it's own gallery that has linking and the "Easy Share" button turned off. I placed a virtual copy in a "Sharing Gallery" and linked that to here...
...
And it doesn't work... Looking at the URL of the link, it goes back to the original gallery, so to link to a virtual copy, sharing has to be turned on in the original gallery.

Yeah, I tried them once and it didn't stick, perhaps now that he's older he would like them. We need a trip to the library anyway as we just finished the last load. we are at 30 minutes of TV per night (less if we pre-record the show) and he is really into reading which I just love. Aside from Calvin and Hobbes which he reads daily and will re-read given the chance, he's started reading the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. He'll read one in a day if I let him! They have larger print and some illustrations and are about 200 pages.

I generally prefer Bulgarian military signal flares, but those are nice.
HAHAHA!
 Our school district had a mix of reel to reel, laser disc and VCR. Though the core teaching material movies were reel to reel. The VCR only came in if and when some company updated the movie which was rare at the time. The laser disc was used when we were learning a subject which required user interaction with the remote to click on answers. I remember pulling many hours of reel to reel projector watch during classes at the ready to hit the switch to stop the projector in case it decided to try and eat the film.
OK, full confession. I was the film projector geek in 5th grade. :o
Jessica's favorite shot...I would crop it a little tighter but I always leave my images uncropped until I print them.

Wow. That looks nothing like what I though the Galapagos would look like.
where the heck does one find surplus Czechoslovakian military signal flares?
I would begin in the former Czechoslovakia Republic. ;)
Ok question:
I have downloaded a DOF ap for my blackberry.
If I input:
Format: 1.6
Focal Length: 40mm
Aperture: f/11
Distance: 10 feet. (I am assuming that is the distance between the camera and the subject)
Click Calculate and get:
Near Limit: 7.13
Far Limit: 16.78
Total: 9.66
Hyperfocal distance 24.42
That means that everything from 7.13' to 16.78' infront of the camera will be in focus?
And that for a perpendicular distance of 24.42' (12.21' left and right of center) will be in focus?
What this means is that a 10 year old kid got his geek on with your phone. :D
I did not learn her on purpose! I sweah!
*packs for road trip*...... do you think I need the silly string?
Hello.... this is Nawlins we're talking about here....

aww. Hale's being a good girl today. Dan took Kona with him to go to the store. Hale didn't even think about having a fit. She got her ball, came over and jumped on my lap and sat down. Hopefully we're over the tantrum stage. Kona never threw tantrums. He did bad stuff when he was upset (tearing up paperback books was a big one) but never total fits (run around howling/barking throwing self around).

He isn't into Harry Potter and I am trying to stay away from Star Wars stuff for a while. Looking for something that has a lot of good moral character and empathy type stuff for the growing mind ;)

We went out for our anniversary dinner tonight. I had Veal Scalapini, and it was to die for. (figure of speach....not planning on dying soon).
