Poor Mose. :(

He had Cryptorchidism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptorchidism). Remember our Irish Setter that had that?
Mosey's isn't as bad as Joey's was, but he is in a bad way. :( :(

We've got him on some good pain killers. ;)

They definitely need to change something before they let anyone else go down that hill.....I can't believe they don't have some sort of smooth barrier up there that if someone comes out of the track....they would still impact.....but they would also continue to slide instead of coming to an instant stop.

Anyone want a dog update?
Feel free to skip this post if not. ;)

Star, the German Shorthair Pointer went in for surgery today to have a lump removed. It was not a cyst, and the vet was adamant that it be removed immediately and sent in for biopsy.

The people who are interested in Star took her in and had the surgery done. They are paying for it.
They asked if they could wait for the results of the surgery before making their decision to adopt.

I picked up 3 dogs from their spay/neuter appointments today. One was Mosey, poor little guy. The other 2 are hanging here for the evening till Lorraine can pick them up later. Both of them are very very sweet, and a joy to have here. Even though they are drugged up.

Kirby is doing great. No more cone of shame, no more stitches. He is a HOOT!
Love this dog. He'll be going to our adoption event tomorrow, and hopefully someone falls in love with him just like I have.

Luna is still at Lorraine's, and she and Jack are doing better together, so she might stay there. Or we might bring her home after the event tomorrow, who knows.

And we have Serra back. She was with them on trial for almost a week, and it was a joint decision (us and them) that Serra was not ok for their family. She needs some more rehabilitation, and was a little too unstable for a home with small children. It wasn't worth risking.
It was sad when they brought her back today though, and there were tears on both sides. :(

That's ok though... we'll find her a home. We will. I have hope. She is a great dog. Just needs specialized care.

I think that's it for now. We've got dead dog livingroom, even the 2 new ones are crashed out.

You are not hard to understand, as in you speech, or what you say?

*runs and ducks*
I am not hard to understand! I am not THAT southern! And if you'll note below... I'm an announcer for the Winter Olympics! Bwahahahahahaha

Jenn sounds just fine, no harder to understand than you, eh? :p Now Jamie I have never heard but they have a serious accent in his neck of the woods.
Thank you Z!!!!

And Jamie does have more of a Southern Twang than I do... but give me about 5 min in his presence and I start to sound just like him... My secretary used to pick on me when I went to see some seriously rural folks... spending a couple of hours with them and then coming back to the 'city' I sounded seriously different! LMAO
She looks fine too. ;)
Would like to hear Jamie talk. Accents are cool.

 Thanks Jim!

I love to hear different people talk, accents are very cool!!!!

If you need a laugh, I highly recommend playing ring toss with a big lurpy black lab who is wearing a cone of shame.
Those pictures were a riot! I love Kirby!!!!!
Perhaps because the movie was filmed here in the mountains of WNC....the dam is part of the Fontana Dam complex....where Jamie had to keep Jennifer from jumping! This is the Cheoah Dam which is downstream from the main Fontana impound. The railroad scenes were filmed on the Fontana trestle....

No... no... no... you got it backwards! Jamie was the one trying to jump! Just sayin!!!!

So, this morning, after convincing Mose that it was ok to get up while it was still dark, lol, I decided to walk to the office to get the van so that I wouldn't have to warm up two vehicles. (had to take the van because we were picking up more dogs). It's a super short walk, across one main road and kitty corner through a parking lot by some storage units. Walked it hundreds of times.

Keep in mind, that it is still completely dark outside.
There are no streetlights around the office area.

Just as I cross the street, and start to head through the parking lot, Mosey stops dead in his tracks, stares down a dark alleyway behind the dumpster, and then FREAKS out.
Sweet little Mose, who has never barked (he bays) was barking like a lunatic. His hackles were raised ALL the way up, from the back of his neck all the way down to his tail.

So of course, my imagination goes crazy, and I start walking super fast. But in passing the alleyway to get to the office, I have to turn my back to whatever Mose is barking at. GAA!

I ended up almost running the last part of the way, had my key ready, unlocked the drivers side of the van, picked up Mose and literally tossed him in, jumped in behind him (heart racing the whole time) and locked the door.

If you could have seen me, you would have laughed I'm sure.
LMAO I could so see you doing it... and I would have too!!!!
On an unrelated note:

Kirby wore his stitches off. He was supposed to go in today to get them out, but they are no more.

No more cone of shame.
YEAH!!!!!
Small canine version of an ice breaker.

She is not hard to find right now.No kidding! I like looking out at night when it has snowed to see Cooper bounding through the yard! He doesn't just vanish when he gets out side the light of the back porch!

OMG, luge man has died in practice right before the opening day of the Olympics...how sad!!
Very tragic....

Becca and I went on a date to the Cheesecake factory tonight. Bec ordered Mahi Mahi and I ordered a fish fry. Our waitress went to pick up our meals and another waiter had taken my meal. She was all apologetic and said a new one would be up right away delivered by the manager. It showed up not 3 minutes later with an apology from the manager. At the end of the meal we got our bill and the waitress said she got them to pay for our entire meal. So Bec and I ordered and paid for 2 deserts to go and gave the waitress a $20 tip. We had a lot of fun joking around with her, she was awesome!

That's ok though... we'll find her a home. We will. I have hope. She is a great dog. Just needs specialized care.

I think that's it for now. We've got dead dog livingroom, even the 2 new ones are crashed out.
Thank you, I will keep fingers and toes crossed for Luna and Serra.

Yes, Dan, it was quite a ride he made too. Try to find it in the next few days, I can't believe how you nailed it.

Yeah, we hope too. :?
G called me in a panic because they were supposed to call her when she could go and get Star, and they never called.
So she waited as long as she could (didn't want to be pushy) and called them about 15 minutes before they were supposed to be closed.
The answering machine picked up and said that they had closed for the night, and wouldn't be open again till Tuesday morning.

So she drove down to the vet (she didn't use our vet, she used hers) and everyone was gone.

And Star is inside. And no one told her how the surgery went.

She is LIVID.

We spent a few hours trying to get a hold of someone, anyone who would know how to get a hold of someone in the vets office.

That might not be a good idea. Many places nowadays don't hire people to come in to feed the boarded dogs. They leave the dogs about sixty bucks when they leave on Friday and tell them that it has to last them for the weekend; when it's gone, it's gone. Some think it's cruel because, well, what if they spend it all on beer and pizza the first night? then they won't have anything for the rest of the weekend. That's true, but it won't kill them and it will teach them a valuable lesson on fiscal responsibility. That being said, your friend may wait outside the vet and only meet the Little Caesar's pizza guy or the Chinese delivery.

I took a quick glance at their site and was a bit disappointed to see this http://shilohhorserescue.rescuegroups.org/info/display?PageID=3805 They "rescued" a horse with crippling arthritis(their words) just because it was to be slaughtered. Is Heather using anything more recent than the D60, though? If not, she takes the title.

Pretty close... Somebody else in here has a D60 too, I think.

I think my regularly used D30 in probably the oldest DSLR still used by the active members here.

Can't get much older than that... Doesn't the D30 even predate the original 1D?

Nice torch lighting, Dan.

See? I've been working on Terri's wings. I've looked at hundreds of bat photos to get the anatomy almost right. I tweaked some, but I think it's close. Lots better than the first ones I did.

Shoulda asked me...

LOL!!!

Whoever could the judges be?

I wonder...

I sure do hope their identities are revealed. I don't think we are going to get many high scores from the one on the right, he sure seems like a grump.

Probably score just the opposite of what it should be.

I'm sure he will be very impartial...

The censor did not disguise the fact he has a beard. That may lead to his identity.

Nah, lotsa people have beards...

I know you guys want to know the identities of the judges, but, really, I don't think that is in the best interest of the games. Perhaps, after the games are over and if they desire to do so, they may reveal themselves. Until then, I think that I should respect Lonnie's, Deb's, Heather's and John's wishes.

Nice we... ummmm, they can remain anonymous.

channel 8 isn't even a channel over here, NBC is channel 4.

Channel 8 here is CBS, NBC is right next door on 7...

That post didn't move a fraction of an inch. I'm sure that it was over instantly. I feel bad for his family and his teammates. They definitely need to change something before they let anyone else go down that hill.....I can't believe they don't have some sort of smooth barrier up there that if someone comes out of the track....they would still impact.....but they would also continue to slide instead of coming to an instant stop.

I was amazed when they ran the video on the news tonight. I could not believe there were unprotected metal posts that close to the run. If I'm not mistaken, they use the same runs for bobsled as well as luge and skeleton. Could you picture the carnage if a four-man bobsled went off the track at that spot?

Good on you Eric for trying to help horses. I took a quick glance at their site and was a bit disappointed to see this http://shilohhorserescue.rescuegroups.org/info/display?PageID=3805 They "rescued" a horse with crippling arthritis(their words) just because it was to be slaughtered. It lived 4 months(in certain pain) until it could take it no more so they put it down. It sounds to me like they tortured that horse so they could feel good about themselves in some twisted way.

I saw a few like that as well. I know that their intention is to pamper those horses for a little while before having them put down. I would hope that it is done when the horse can actually appreciate the pampering.

YEH...................................... I can't wait.

Just got back from the vet with Hale. Her elbow is not infected (thankfully) but was too swollen so they drained it (seriously almost fainted during it) and bandaged it. The bandage didn't stay on so they re-bandaged it at the office. It promptly came off as soon as we got home. The bandage is at a place where when she walks, it just comes down. We tried to re-wrap it and ours didn't last as long as the doctor's.

Hope her elbow heals quickly Lisa (and about your hair - go with what you want to do. If you want to go red then go red. We love you for who you are - not the color of your hair)

And this is not an announcement, but just for fun while I was messing with other things.

Great job - which one does Marian like?

Just a quick roll by. Still under the weather.

I'm sick of being sick.

Out.

Hope you are feeling better Chief

Morning, I've got a few moments betweengeting Eli to school (for the first time since Tuesday) and the aide coming to help me get dad up for the day.

Mom's surgery went fantastically well, she was up walking around yesterday! she goes to rehab today around 3, dad will join her up there tomorrow around noon and I'll officially be off duty!!

we closed the Center for 2 days, so I get 2 vacation days back, I am tacking them onto this 'vacation' as eli is off all of next week, so I'll only go in on Friday.

We have no idea how long mom will be in rehab, they are guessing about 10 days. Her birthday is on Monday, so my SIL and I will take the kids up with balloons and cupcakes and what not, since they will be off school.

Dad hasnt' really noticed mom isn't here, tho we aren't telling her that. Every once in a while we will tell him before he asks where she is and what's going on, then he smiles and says "well maybe she'll come up and sing somehting next" as he has had this extended hallucination of being at the supper club they used to sing at in the early 60's. He's happy about it so who cares?

Glad everything is going wonderful for your Mom and Dad.

Awwww...crissa that's great that mom is well....and yep, same camp as terri re: your dad.

G'mae all.

Apparently my mom dislocated her knee yesterday skiing with my stepdad just AFTER he had turned off to go on the harder trail. She was going down a hill and lost it. She then dragged herself back up the hill to try and get to their meeting place and was at it about an hour. They don't know what kind of damage she did as she is still too swollen to get an MRI and the xrays were inconclusive. She can't put any weight on it....it just buckles and she says it feels like it's not even attached.

Keep her in your happy thoughts please. :)

ouch - hope it is nothing serious Fafa

Mose wanted to protect his "Mom" from the shadows...

On an unrelated note:

Kirby wore his stitches off.  He was supposed to go in today to get them out, but they are no more.

No more cone of shame. :)

Great Job on getting Kirby healed so quickly.

AWWWWWWWWWW what a cute little snow breaker.

Chet, I really trust our vet. When Hale's elbow surgery repair was too much for her, she was honest and said so & sent us to a specialist. She's done major surgeries on Pacha and actually the standard surgeries on most of our pets. She isn't even in the same town as us...we travel to see her because we like how she is with our animals.

That is great that you have a vet that you trust. We also have one that we trust completely

Just found out I have to ride a horse this week end.:| Yeah, hubby didn't tell me that before we left. If he had, I would of stayed home.

Sorry Paula. Hope you have a good time though.

OMG, luge man has died in practice right before the opening day of the Olympics...how sad!!

Very sad.

Is Heather using anything more recent than the D60, though? If not, she takes the title.

THat is what I am still using (although, I don't think it has been out since Diane was here), although I took our little Sony Cybershot to Disneyland with me yesterday.

Poor Mose. :(

He had Cryptorchidism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptorchidism). Remember our Irish Setter that had that?
Mosey's isn't as bad as Joey's was, but he is in a bad way. :( :(

We've got him on some good pain killers. ;)

Poor baby. Glad to hear that you have him doped up so he is not feeling any pain.

I hope this doesn't scare anyone...

LMAO

Great update Cat. Hope Star is Ok

Now that's customer service!

Nice job on the service - and great that you gave her a nice tip.

Ok, I'm supposed to make something that we can give to the people/businesses who are supporting us in our event tomorrow night. (sponsors, etc)

It's supposed to be simple, but a little funky. Nothing huge, but kinda different.

This will be printed as a 5x7, and put in a simple frame and given to our supporters.

What do you think? TOO funky?? I may have overdone the 'kinda different' part.

I like it Cat

No luck.

So she's camping out there till someone comes back to the office to feed the boarded dogs.

I can guarantee you THAT's not going to be a pretty meeting.

I would not want to be around when that meeting happens.

Hi All. Glad to hear that our East Coasters are surviving with the snow. I had a great time at Disneyland yesterday, and a good day at the Zoo today. Best part was taking the train home, and not having to sit in the traffic. Off to bed - have to get up early for several events at work.

Night Everyone. Hope you all enjoy your holiday weekend - I will be working.

I'm out, can't see through my sleepiness to process any more of the show that will not be mentioned. We are burning the CD's tomorrow to take to the cast party in the evening. Afterward we will be going to our anniversary dinner, if we can get a reservation. Dawned on me this morning that tomorrow will be a big dinner out night for many.

Most horses, although happy to come up for grain and a treat are just as happy, if not happier, to be left alone to graze and be horses. I know horses that love their job and excel under saddle but I don't know any that are real excited to go for a ride if they can choose between going or not. My point is I don't really think they did anything good for the horse and really probably were unintentionally cruel by imposing human feelings on it. I know you are a reasonable person and probably an asset to them because you seem to think sensibly.
