Canon EOS-1D Mark II firmware update version 1.2.3

What has been changed in version 1.2.3 of the firmware?

With the version 1.2.2 firmware, pressing the DISPLAY button right after shooting images resulted in an abnormal display and the camera would freeze. Images are not lost when this occurs. Also, removing and then reloading the battery restores the camera to normal operation. This version 1.2.3 firmware incorporates fixes for the issue described above

This firmware update applies to cameras with firmware version up to 1.2.2 installed. If your camera's firmware is already version 1.2.3, it is not necessary to perform this update.

Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II firmware update version 1.1.3

What has been changed in version 1.1.3 of the firmware?

With the version 1.1.2 firmware, pressing the DISPLAY button right after shooting images resulted in an abnormal display and the camera would freeze. Images are not lost when this occurs. Also, removing and then reloading the battery restores the camera to normal operation. This version 1.1.3 firmware incorporates fixes for the issue described above.

This firmware update applies to cameras with firmware version up to 1.1.2 installed. If your camera's firmware is already version 1.1.3, it is not necessary to perform this update.

I have been downloading so many updates lately that I almost have my 1DsMkII's serial number memorized. Actually I have the first 3 numbers memorized and I guessed pretty close on the remaining three.

Thanks for posting the link since Canon USA doesn't show it yet and Canon never seems to bother letting people know it exists. Good customer service practice, that.

now I just have to wait and see if this one causes any new problems. At least this was a very good time for firmwear updates as I don't have any critical shoots for the rest of the month. At least no one has reported any problems with this update.

I always chuckle when I register a new camera. One of the reasons they give for registering it is so they can notify me of important updates.

I've registered at least 5 SLRs and have never received such a notice from Canon. Has anyone else?

I had gotten notices with my 10D, but with the 1D2, I've not gotten any notices. Then again, I've updated as soon as the file was available. Maybe entering my serial number has allowed Canon's web site to automatically exclude me from that particular notification.

Registered my 10D, 20D and 1DM2. I never get a notice. You think they're trying to tell me something?

Why is the date on this thread 23/06 when the firmware has been out for several weeks?

Because Canon released a new update 1.1.3 (for 1DsMkII) less then a month after releasing 1.1.2 .

I had that same thought until I saw the firmwear update was #3 instead of #2. Confused me for a moment, but looking at the person who first posted I realised they normally are on the ball so I checked and sure enough a new firmwear update in less then a week after the last one I did.

Apparently there was still a minor glitch when they released 1.1.2, so they released an updated version as soon as possible. I think Canon is great on the release timeing of updates as they seem to get them out there as soon as possible. The only issue I have is that they don't usually spend much effort letting us know there is a problem and that they are working on it. Or for that matter that they have the update out now.

I did get a notice for my 10D one time, but it came well over a month after I had updated it!

ACCORDING TO CANON:
Q : What has changed in the version 1.2.3 firmware?

A : It includes the following improvements:
With the version 1.2.2 firmware, pressing the DISPLAY button right after shooting images resulted in an abnormal display and the camera would freeze. Images are not lost when this occurs. Also, removing and then reloading the battery restores the camera to normal operation. This version 1.2.3 firmware incorporates fixes for the issue described above.

I never saw either issue, but glad to upgrade anyhow!

Gentlemen:
I currently have a Canon Eos 1Ds MkII with version 1.1.1 firmware and although I have never experienced the difficulty alluded to in your posts would like to maintain an up to date status. Therefore, is it necessary to load the version 1.1.2 firmware before loading version 1.1.3 or can I simply skip the 1.1.2 step?
Thank you in advance.

I believe that you can skip the incremental update. The latest firmware should be complete, containing the prior updates.
