I have a wedding Im shooting tomorrow and I have been feeling great about it. Well for the past 1/2 hour my stomach is doing flip flops lol. This is only my 5th wedding but wondering if any of you veterans out there still get butterflies before hand.

After 100 ish weddings there are still nerves, but they're very minor, just slight apprehension about wanting to do my best. Anyone who stops getting nervous is probably complacent or just plain awesome. Like Bobby ;)

Or plain crazy,...a little stomach butterfly helps keep my head focused :)

I'm the same. I will get quite nervous up to the morning of the wedding - mainly because I want to do the right thing, take everything I need, and not forget anything. But about an hour before the start time it all fades and I end up having a ball as usual!

One of my mates is a pro footballer, and after 12 years still gets the nerves. I shot a book cover with him last week, and the bloke who organised it was surprised when we wrapped it up and I said I was glad it was done as I'd been nervous. My mate said that if you're not, you're not going to get the best out of yourself.

I guess I never looked at it as a positive thing. Wish I would have gotten more than 4 hours of sleep though. I kept waking up and thinking of different poses I want to get.

You'll get past that. Start thinking about capturing emotions, not poses.

I still get butterflies. I take it to mean I care about doing well. :)

Johnny Carson once said just at the very end of his career that he still got nervous when it was time to go on.

I can't say that I actually get or got nervous. That's not the right word for me. But I do feel the pressure and I feel it all day long. Making sure I don't miss a key shot, have I forgotten any shot, am I going to come up with interesting ideas for the portraits, will my equipment work as intended, etc.

And I don't think that will ever go away. Probably a good thing, too, as it's part of what keeps our head in the game.

That's crazy! You need more than 4 hours sleep to function at your best...

I think it means you're taking the job seriously...

Since it's 2 days later... how'd it go?

I've only shot a couple, but I hardly slept the night before either of them! I'm going to have to get that under control.

Can't talk much about photography, because I'm still sorta new on that front (yeah of course I get nervous with photo shoots of course).

But VIDEO stuff I've done a lot of. I still get a little nervous. It's the times I'm not nervous when I make silly mistakes (over confidence).

I still get nervous when I'm about to go on a ninja mission too. Then I just remember to stick to the shadows and I'm fine.

In footy season, I do one or two match reports a weekend. I'm nervous in every one of them, and I reckon it helps. It's when you think you've got it covered that you find you haven't...

Either I'm complacent or there's another guy here named Bobby :p

Seriously though, I guess I don't really get nervous anymore. I think this is because I'm comfortable in doing what I do -- and, more importantly, am comfortable not doing what I don't do (no matter how much I wish I could do it). In other words, I've found what I do well and sort of don't give any attention to other aspects of photography that other people do so much better than me. Not that I don't try to get better -- but that's, I think, why I don't get nervous? Not sure if I'm explaining that very well :)

If you don't get at least a little nervous, it's become simply a job.

Even after I'd been doing it for nearly 25 years, working Sports TV broadcasts would get my adrenalin flowing really well. Couple years ago, that sensation began to wane and I knew it was time to get out.

Photography gets those juices flowing again!

I'm not a wedding shooter, but I think it applies to all types of photographers. I get a little anxious before a shoot starts. I think did I bring all the equipment, is my assistant going to say something stupid to my client, I've never worked with this MUA lets hope she is up to par.... but then the shoot gets going and I become very zen about everything. I have quality people around me and we produce high quality work.

Do you mean that in the sense of not enjoying it anymore? Because if so, you're wrong. I LOVE it! I also don't really get nervous anymore ;)

Nerves = Excitement = Focus = The Zone = You Care = It Matters

My point was if you find you don't feel something .. time to move on.

Hi Locky,

I'm always nervous. Especially after having a long break of not shooting a wedding for awhile. And let me tell you, I shoot over 200 weddings per year. So it's something that's always there. The 1st wedding shoot is always the most nerve racking though.

Well, not nervous, just anxious. I have a wedding to shoot this Saturday and snow is in the forecast. I worry that I can't do my job well in those conditions. White on white. That's all I need! :(

White on white is easy. There's like, zero dynamic range to worry about. LOL.

I'd much rather white on white than black on black. The groom just looks like a severed head floating sometimes if the ceremony location is dark and flash isn't allowed.

What about really dark complexion on bright white for both the b&g? :)

Don't worry mate. In Tassie the weather is perfect all the time. You'll have great lighting. :D

Didn't you hear the joke about the dude who called heaven from a church is Tassie and it only cost him 20¢ because it was a local call?!

I was a bit nervous. But I think it's excuseable as I was the only photographer, shooting a 60 guest ceremony in a dark church with a 400D and slow lens, a 12 hour schedual and being told 'I want you to get a photo of everybody who attends'.... plus, I was 16 and my first wedding ever.

Went okay though :p

Besides, I like the nervous feeling... not many people get a kick of adrenaline when going into do their job in the morning.

You personally shoot 200 weddings a year? Or you run a studio that handles 200 weddings a year? I can't even imagine shooting 100 weddings a year -- no less 200.

Heck yeah, I get nervous. I usually attend the rehearsal the night before to get my "gameplan" together for the ceremony the next day. Then I un-voluntarily wake up about 4am that morning walking through the day in my head wondering if I'm taking the best approach to everything.
