Hi everyone! I am puzzled.. I showed this pic to my friend photographer and he said I have overdone it with Photoshop. Actually all I did is desaturated a bit the grass and "unsharp mask". He said it just doesn't look good. I love this pic, so I really need your opinion. Thanks!!!

To me it just needs a little brightness and contrast to lift it .

It's pretty light around the head and shoulders but looks good otherwise IMO. Very crisp with good DOF. I think your photographer friend just doesn't want to encourage the competition....

Very cute child too.

This is a nice pic, and I understand why you like it! Great subject; nice composition, colors, DOF....

It's hard to tell on this size photo (I'm guessing you have a larger original), but it does appear just a tad oversharpened. The white line around the chin and the hard edges on the dress detail may be what your friend is talking about.

Absolutely marvelous!

Everyone has his or her personal preferences, so don't let your friend's comments get you down. If your happy with it, that's what counts the most!

Given his comments, I suspect there's a little of this going on.

It does appear a tad desaturated but I think it's an excellent effort and assuming the child is yours it should be framed and prominently displayed in your home.

I agree with Big John. If you like the picture then that is all that matters. Personally I like the picture. She has a very cute smile.

Are you sure he's a friend ?LOL It's a very sweet picture. Nice color harmony and bokeh.

There's nothing majorly wrong w/ it from what I can see. Maybe, like the other poster said, a little too sharp on the edges but it's not bothering me.Ask him to be specific about what he thinks is wrong w/ it. I CANNOT stand it when some just says it's not good...

Thanks alot guys! The friend of mine is a very professional photographer and his opinion means a world to me. But I suspect that he is still not a believer in digital enhancing and as matter of fact still shoot film. He says I should improve my skills as a photographer and not to cover my bo-bos in the photoshop. Actually he is right about that. If I will show you the original you'll boo me as well.. Thanks for the comments everyone and I will be careful about sharpening too much in the future.

Maybe your mistake was showing the photographer frined the original picture (if you did). Maybe if you just show the final version and ask for comments, you'll have better luck. I've had that experience where people absolutely love a picture, but then when they hear you saturated it or sharpened it, suddenly it's no good anymore. I think most of them wouldn't know the difference if you didn't tell them. :)

The horizon seems slightly tilted to the right...need more PS, lol. I've been on that same desaturation kick as well and I like it obviously since most of my images I've posted here lately have it. Luckily not everyone has the same taste or this would be a really boring hobby. The post processing is my favorite part. We're the new generation of photographers I guess. I can't really tell from this post if it's really over sharpened, to me it doesn't look like it. I've had some problem with grass though in the past. What I'll do is put a mask over the unsharpen layer and selectively sharpen the main feature such as the eyes and anything else I was to define more.

Great shot!

It takes talent to operate Photoshop to get the result you have here, just the same as it would take talent to pull off this shot without any digital enhancement.
