I just got my 7D 1,5 days ago. Yesterday was my first outing with it.
I had to use it (because I have other body) during the match between PSV - NEC. I did not have time to read the manual and did not fire any shots with it yet (besides 5 test photos in the camera store).
Couple of things I noticed:

- Viewfinder is big, YES!
- AI Servo locks quicker (than 40D) and is more accurate (as far as I tested it)
- The framerate is unbelievably quick
- The LCD screen is SO nice
- Ergonomics are slightly better IMO (grip is larger I think, feels more solid)
- There are so many AF settings available I have to learn a lot about them
- Feels like a totally different animal than the 40D.

So here are some of my first shots. I used Manual exposure, AI Servo, AF expansion. 7D + 300mm F2.8IS

I have to get used to this new machine. But first impressions are very good. I love to get more photos with the 7D.

The 7D is sure a nice camera, although I have not played with it a lot (I have it for less than 2 days).
ISO was 1250.

How do you like your 7D after a couple of months. Did you shoot sports with it?

Very nice shots but I think they're lacking a bit of contrast. Good action though.

Thanks The Moose. Someone else also told me that, however on my monitor they look okay contrast wise... So is it my monitor or... I'm not sure.

Lovely crisp, clean shots. Well done!

Thanks Steve.

Nice clean shots.

Thanks for looking Dmao.

Howdy,

Very nice shots but I think they're lacking a bit of contrast. Good action though.

I think the contrast is fine in a web browser that understands embedded color profiles, like Firefox 3. Contrast is low in IE (which does not).

Perhaps the files were saved with Adobe RGB numbers rather than sRGB? Checking...yup. Photoshop sees an embedded Adobe RGB color profile.

It looks exactly the same to me in Chrome and Firefox. I primarily use Chrome. It could be Adobe RGB but I wouldn't count out my uncalibrated laptop monitor being the issue here

Hmmm, I'm at work at the moment and the colors on my photos look very dull now.
This is in IE 7 and Firefox 3.5.7.
At home they colors look very different.

My camera had the default setting; sRGB. But was 'edited' in Photoshop.
Did I do something wrong?

Please help!

I downloaded your image and opened it up in Photoshop, and it says that the embedded profile is Adobe RGB, so I assume those are the color numbers that you used at least when you saved the final image out of Photoshop.

You'll probably want to go into your color settings in Photoshop (CTRL+SHIFT+K) and enable the profile mismatch warnings. While you're in there, have a look at your working space. I suspect that it's Adobe RGB.

I would have to say that you did much better than I did with my first try with the 7D. I had a difficulty time getting the autofocus to do what I needed until I figured out how to handle the set up. Then it was amazingly quick.

Good work Tim

Thanks for your comment!

I'm sorry I don't exactly know what you mean.

My CS4 colorsettings say: sRGB IEC61966-2.1
My Win 7 color management says: Device profile -> System default (sRGB IEC61966-2.1)
However when I save a file the option ICC Profile: Adobe RGB (1998) is checked. When I uncheck it, the colors are way off.

What do I have to change to get the correct colors when I save a file in CS4?

What is also very strange in Pbase is switching between large and original size on a photo (the colors look different; at least on my screen).

Ugly, dull: http://www.pbase.com/tvw/image/121325944/large
http://www.pbase.com/tvw/image/121325944/large.jpg

On my screen quite accurate: http://www.pbase.com/tvw/image/121325944/original

You'll want to adjust your color settings in Photoshop to something like this (from "Edit -> Color Settings..."):

http://www.dsnyder.ws-e.com/photos/potn/Color_Settings.png

I know you said that your camera was set to sRGB, but the images that you're opening must have been created in or converted to Adobe RGB at some point if Adobe RGB is showing up under "Save as...". With Photoshop setup this way, it will ask you if you want to convert the color numbers in your images to match your sRGB working space. If you're creating images for the web, it's probably ok to say "yes", but be sure to keep a backup of the master Adobe RGB file in case conversion to sRGB results in some loss of color depth or channel clipping with highly saturated colors.

If you don't want to fiddle with all of that, before you post to pbase and other places on the web, you can just use "File -> Save for Web & Devices". That automatically converts to sRGB color numbers, but I think that it also strips out the EXIF data, which may not be desirable.

Give these suggestions a try and let me know if they help.

I think the problem was in ACR.
I've uploaded the photos again in sRGB format (if everything went correctly). Could you please check if this is the case?

Thanks in advance.

Tim

Yes. I primarily have been shooting basketball which has given me some issues with lighting, but that is only because I am still relatively new to photography. I am definately looking foward to learning more and getting into football season next year.

I'm looking forward to your photos.

Here a few from last week. I shoot everything at ambient.

This gym was horrible. Shot at 1/500 ss, f/2.8, ISO 6400

This was in the home gym where I usually shoot at ISO 4000 with 1/500 ss at f/2.8. I tried to increase my f/stop to get a better DOF. I shot this at ISO 5000, f/3.2, 1/500 ss.

Second shot is great. I feel your pain. I'm struggling with lighting too with my son's hockey games. He has one today. WB is tough and so is metering with almost the entire scene being white. We'll see how it goes.
