Hi all,

I am using canon powershot G7, which is a fantastic camera. it my best camer ever used -best value for money-

i am using very often the widescreen setting (3648x2048) and the photos in the LCD screen are shown with a black frame side bar. however, when I am downloading the images to the cannon software or to any software, the black side bars are grey.

do you know if there is a setting to retain the black side bars when I want to display or print the image??

thanks

Well, they don't exist in the photo - what you're seeing is the camera's, or computer's, effort to fill in the space on the screen that the picture doesn't occupy. If you want to make black borders part of your pictures, you'll need to add them in a photo editing program.

Exactly what Jon the troll slayer said,,, also you may consider shooting normally and just cropping to widescreen.

ok, thanks a lot for the information.
do you know how to search the setting of adding black borders in photoshop etc?
or there is not such a setting and I have to edit it manually?

thanks in advance

You will need to make the canvas size larger than the image size and select black as the background color.

Click on image and then canvas size and you should be able to figure it out.
