I have been asked to shoot team and individual pictures for a high school track program. They are wanting to get away from the "original" look. Anyone have any new and creative poses that you have been using?

Well, never shot track, but I have a few suggestions that may or may not have been used... for team pic place two pole vaulters(if they have any) on the two outside ends with poles in hand over resting on their outside shoulder and turned in toward the inside of the frame, resting on the ground. Put the shot-putters and or discus throwers sitting in the middle with their prospective equipment in front of them, the just fill in with the runners, hurdlers, long jumpers etc.... and place them on the track on a straightaway with either the highjump bar or long jump pit or hurdles to be "soft focused" on in the backround. As for individuals, research the net to get a good idea whats out there, take a look at previous work of the team and add your own twists on them. Remember to shoot the emotions of the athletes..happy and sad, and include the fans..there is always parents in the stands! Hope this helps..

During an actual race use a wide angle lens with a low shot looking up. Capture the expression on the face or the muscle tones in the legs and arms. It may require cutting off part of the body but done right, it could look quite nice.
