I took my camera on a business trip to Phoenix last week, and this rail was all around the patio. I couldn't get enough of this railing - took a couple dozen shots, some during the day, some at night. This one was hand held at 10 PM. Many of the others I shot at night had camera shake, but I didn't have a monopod (next time I will) or a tripod, so I HAD to hand hold.

I like this shot, but I'm not sure it has any particular appeal to anyone else. Opinions?

Very nice.

That's amazing DOF for f/2.8.

That's really good.

I would have thought DOF would have been tighter, opened up to max 2.8

You know, I would too. But I was checking that and getting what I wanted, so there it is. I'm sure someone here can explain how to "know" before you pull the trigger by using some rule of thumb, but I don't know what it is.

well the 20d does have a DOF preview button but if its wide open what you see is pretty much what you get. I think theres a link in the macro section for a dof guide if you want exact measurements.
