Hello

Just a quick question

I am using a 1GB card shooting .JPG at size Large , instensity 8 and I am only getting 180 shots on the 1DmkII compared to 299 on the 10D. Are the file sizes really that much bigger on the 1D?

That doesn't sound right. The 10d file size according to Canon UK web site is 2.4Mb for Large/fine and according to my manual Large JPGs' are about 2.8Mb on the 1D Mk2. Their guidelines indicate around 310-320 shots for 1Gb.

There are some variables involved, based on type of picture, ISO, and parameters, but I wouldn't have thought it would make that much difference.

Have you formatted the card in camera?

Yeah.. easily 300 shots at large fine on a MkII... what does "intesity 8" mean?

Check your ISO.. and also check to see if you have another folder on the card with images in it.

Definitely check your settings.... Remember now, in the menu your 1DmkII has adjustable JPEG compression/quality settings from 1 to 10 for each JPEG size, 8 being the factory default (approx. 3mb for large). At JPEG large fine quality 8 you should get around 300 images, however at JPEG quality 10 you will only get about 175 images. Quality 10 Large JPEGs are about 6mb. Personally, if I shoot JPEG I always shoot at the highest quality.
