7D Video Question

I recently shot some of my first video with the 7D. It was at a wedding where I turned the camera to portrait orientation to film the bride and groom's first dance. When I play this back, it is displayed in horizontal orientation. In-camera auto rotate does not affect video. So unless I want to turn the TV or monitor on its side to view the video in an upright position, it makes watching the video a bit of a hassle with turning one's head sideways.
I called Canon tech support who said I should only shoot video in landscape orientation and recommended using ZoomBrowser to rotate and burn the file as an avi file to a DVD. I tried this which partially worked. I was able to rotate the file and convert to file to avi and the avi file played on my computer but the sound was lost in the transition. When burned to a DVD, it would not play on my DVD player (likely the DVD player's fault). I would like to send the video (with audio) to others to view. Does anyone have any suggestions on a better fix? Thanks.

Afaik there are no defined SD or HD verticle formats so I am not sure why you would want to do this.

Simple solution.. just turn your tv sideways or have everyone lay down and watch it :D

Did you burn landscape orientation video to the dvd? Does it play on the dvd player? If it does, then its a problem with your conversion to .avi. if it doesnt , then your dvd player won't support the file type or media type(dvd+r,dvd-r etc..)

You should look into a video editing program to rotate the video and burn. I always recommend sony vegas.

Another thing to remember when burning a dvd.. your audio should always be set as a 'pcm' file for compatibility with most dvd players.

Tell them to turn their TVs vertically ;)

Video is only landscape. However, in editing programs, you should be able to rotate and resize down. It'll only be about 20% of the screen, and resized down to 272 px by 480px (actually 230px with 1.78AR) if you put it on a dvd
