Would someone be willing to post a photo comparison of a subject shot with and without the canon EF 12 extension tube. I would like to see how much difference the tube makes as far as magnification goes. I'm something of a macro-photographer and I'm thinking about getting one for my 40D and 100mm f/2.8 macro. Cheers. ~ Jenesaispas

I thought extension tubes usually came in sets of three, that can be used individually or stacked together to give varying levels of magnification.

Canon tubes are sold separately. Afaik, they have both the 12mm and 25mm. Santa brought me a 12mm for Christmas this year. :D

Here you go. Both were taken with the 18-55mm kit lens at 55mm. I used a tripod and got as close to the quarter as possible. In the first photo, this was without the extension tube. In the second photo which was with the Canon EF 12 II extension tube, I was able to actually move physically closer to the quarter, though not by much.

Hope this helps!

the kenko tubes are sold in a set of 3...and they're a much better deal than the canon ones...and canons air doesn't provide any better i.q.

here's a few different shots...unfortunately he didn't do a 12mm tube, and 100mm macro...but you can see the effect of a full set of kenkos on the 100mm....i use that combo with my 100mm quite a bit

Extension tubes have no optics, they are simply a device that positions the lens further from the sensor,,,,,,,,that being said how can hype as to quality, manufacturer etc be of any significance,it would seem that anything that would not allow stray let in would work or am I missing something other than AF and fit & finish.

I think you've missed the point dick. The only person in this thread to have mentioned IQ was DreDaze, and I think you will find that he was just having a small dig - probably at the price of the Canon tubes, but I'm only guessing as I don't know how much they retail for.
