Here are a few shots that I popped off today at the motorcycle park. The last few in the series are a little OOF. I was using my cheap crappy Canon 75-300mm lens. I think it will be fixed once I start shooting with some L glass. CC always welcome.

Mike:

those are pretty good! Light angles were kind of wierd making for less than stellar color on the shots. The stop-action is good, but I think people who shoot motorsports (bikes in general) use slower shutter speeds to show the wheels in motion. Good lesson in smooth 'panning' and using slower shutter speeds to be learned here!

Well... I think you were too far away from most of the riders (or so it seems). Angle is everything in these types of shots, as well.

Thanks for the reply guys. FMX you are correct, I was too far away. I actually just parked and stood by my car to shoot these. I was just taking a try at it and did not move out close to the track. Will do that for sure next time.

Dave, yes I will have to slow the shutter down a bit to get those wheels spinning and the background a little more OOF. I will go out this weekend again and experiment some more. I only like about 1/2 mile away from the cycle park so no big deal to slip up there to take some pictures.

Suggest mixing in some tighter shots or crop more.

not bad, but shoot tighter. At first you'll miss shots, but its worth it in the end. Also, your colors are a little dull/whack, but that could be from the lens.

Agree on the shoot tighter. I had my color settings in my camera set to neutral because I usually shoot portraits in RAW. Since I am obviously using JPEG for this stuff and not post processing these types of photos. I will bump up the color settings in the camera next time.

Good first step.
I agree with others tighter shots would be better.
One piece of advice i would give you is when shooting motocross.
"If the rider is looking at you ,RUN because when that happens they are
coming rite for you."
It's like they are looking rite through you and don't even see you.
I the worst at trying to get the close shot lol

She damn near ran me over lol
also I pretty much only use TV setting with a 55-250 lense
but need the 70-200 f2.8 for those not so sunny days.
