Hi guys,
I wonder if you may help me regarding this issue (the alternative is to go in a shop and test it in person).
I own 2 Sigma lenses exactly:
- 70-300mm F4-5.6 Macro Super II
- 24-70mm f3.5-5.6 UC (Aspherical)
Do you know for sure if those are safe with the canon digital (300d,350d,20d) or I will get the horrible error 99?
I am preparing some "quote" or expenses plan and I need to know if I can use the Sigmas I already own or if I am screwed. :D
Thanks in advance,
Tony

They sound liek they are pretty new lenses, I'm pretty sure they will work on it. Go to your local camera shop and try it out on a camera and see how they work.

I am not sure, what do you mean by EF? (I know EF is for Canon's one)

EF is the mount used by all EOS cameras (and EF-S on the 300D and newer x1.6 bodys). Sigma tanron and all the 3rd party lenses offer EF mount lenses as well as nikon, minolta, etc.

Whenever I have thought about buying a SH Sigma more than 18 months old or so then I have emailed Sigma direct and got a response within 12-24 hours. Check out the support section of their web site. If you state the exact lens model and maybe the serial number if you have it then they will tell you if it is Ok on a specific body. If not, you can always use the body and lenses you have as backup.

I'll try to contact them.
Thanks, Tony.

The Sigma 70-300 should work fine if it's a new one with the red ring.
I tried a second hand one in a shop and it gave my 20D the err99 message.
This error does not hurt the camera ,It just the camera's way of saying WTF !

I bought them about 1 year ago through cameta auctions.
They don't have any red ring :-(

Try it! They won't hurt the camera if the lens worked ok on a film canon ok;)

When you try your Sigma lenses, be sure to make sure they work with your camera both on manual and auto modes.
After buying my 300D, I thought all was well with using my old Sigma 28-200 on it until one day when I set the camera to manual and got the err99 message. I went into Jessops where, fortunately, the assistant I spoke to knew about the issue.
Regards, David :)
