I took over 250 shots on this trip (in 4 hours) and only got a couple worth posting! Missed a fantastic shot of 2 dolphins jumping at the same time. Oh well... guess I'll have to go back out! Thanks for the comments.

Just great. i decided to leave my camera behind when we took a snorkeling trip and was so sorry I did....had a pod of about 50 spinner dolphins leaping all around us as well as beautiful parrots flying over head. Live andl earn.

Nice shot!

Where did you go out of Becca? I may be planning a "whale watch" for the long weekend coming up - getting some dolphins would make it even better.

Scottes,

I went out of Rye Harbor, New Hampshire. The company is called Granite State Whale Watch. Hope you have good sightings if you decide to go. This is only the second time I've seen dolphins on a whale watch, so it was a real treat! We also saw Fin Whales and Minke Whales. The only thing that could have made it better would have been a Humpback!

Thanks for the nice comments!

Good capture, maybe you could increase the contrast a bit.

Great capture. Hardly surprised you took so many pictures, they aren't the easiest subject are they? :D

That a really good catch. Did you try to crop it tighter a little bit ? Maybe (but probably its just me) reducing the sky above will pull the animal out more ?

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions.

I did crop the original picture quite a bit and played with the levels to try to come up with the best pic I could. I'm attaching a resized version of the original and I'd appreciate any suggestions on how I could have done it better. Please feel free to make any modifications you like.

A few years ago when I visited San Diego I went on a whale watch, but we only saw a few tales of the whales and a few blowholes but no dolphins. And I only had a Olympus P&S so I didn't get any good photos :-(

But these days we are experiencing a little of a sensation here in Denmark, a few Dolphins has been spotted in the danish waters and thats a rare site around here.

A quick try, compressed the levels a little bit, and a different, squared crop. of course the jpeg artifacts are visible.

Rob,
That looks much better! Thanks for the input. I didn't want to shoot in jpg, but because I was using the continuous shooting feature, I had to. (Apparently it doesn't work with RAW?)

I'll play with it more later and see if I can make it "pop" a bit more. Thanks again!

It was just a hint. with a resized and compressed jpeg I could not do anything more. or at least very little. I just worked out the minimum.

Great picture BeccaNH!

It sounds like you had a decent trip. I haven't seen dolphins yet this year so I'm a little bummed out that I missed it. Hopefully, I'll get to see them this year. :)

Mandy,
I thought about you when we came upon the dolphins and they said that this is the first time they had seen them this year. It was a lot of fun watching them. Wish we could have seen a humpback, but that just gives me a reason to go back out. Thanks for inspiring me!
