Here's a surf video I made with my new 7D! First try at making any kind of video. Shot at 60fps 720p. Edited with Premiere Pro CS3. Footage from a 2 hour session on 1-22-10. Stills were shot with 7D as well.

Any CC is welcome. Will definitely help with the next vid.

Some nice camera work, could use some more transitions and possibly some camera effects and maybe some closeups of the surfers as they walk to the water, These types of films tend to have a close personal style to the surfer, showing them getting ready then hitting the waves then relaxing afterwards

Ever seen professional Skating or Surfing videos?, there edited with very fast cuts and lots of different shots and angles.

Great first piece of work, keep going and maybe check out some examples online.

Here is a quick example for you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xIv6aW7Ies

Thanks for the CCs guys!

GyRob:Yeah, the music will scare the poo out of you if you arent ready for it. HAH! Maybe start a little lower volume and build it up?

johnpartridge: I've seen quite a few surf flicks. I like the fast pace camera changes and transitions. I also like the interviews and parts showing everyone just hanging out after the session. Though I only had a couple of hours to shoot since I had to work. Hopefully I can spend more time next time getting more angles and more closeups of the guys/girls. Really fun and challenging though. Will keep working at it.

Svetlana: Maybe snowboarding?? That would be really fun to shoot!

I was wondering where you were and thought it was east coast...and then I checked your site. My mom has lived in NC for a few years and I'm thinking about visiting this summer and will need surf. I'm not interested in wetsuits though. Nice vid too! Looks like some fun small stuff.

Some of the transitions were a bit abrupt and there was a few parts when something flashed on the screen for 1 or 2 frames.

Nice to add a touch more colour too it too.

Good though. :D

insanecutback: Thanks! yup, eastern NC. Emerald Isle. Some fun waves, though summertime is either hit or miss. We dont get waves for weeks unless we get a nice low pressure off the coast. Late August to November is the best time of the season for us.

Stealthy Ninja: I definitely have to add in some saturation and contrast for the next video. I was noticing that too, but wasnt quite sure how it would effect rendering. I'll work on my transitions in Premiere and see if I can smooth them out. I think some of my keyframes overlapped. Definitely a lot to learn!

Thanks again!

Can't you put in transitions with Premiere? Not just use the rubber bands? I forgot (I used Premiere for years, but switched to FCP about 3 years ago).

yah, there a definitely transitions in there. Just gotta learn how to use them properly. Used all rubber bands for this one just to see how to do it.

OIC You might want to get down to single frame view (or whatever the techical term is) to check out some parts.

Video editing... even one frame can make a difference.
