I just had some general questions about the 10D. A family friend just upgraded a few months ago to the 20D so he sold me his 10D for $450, the 24-85mm USM lens for $250 and a 75-300mm USM IS lens for $140. He has a lot of money, so he just sold it to me for what B&H would give him as a trade in.

Anyways, I thought i would go for it because it seemed like too good of a deal to pass up, but how good is this camera? Would I be able to do anything semi-professional with it? Or is it just a good amateur camera? I have been very pleased with it, although I would like to have the extra 2 megapixels and the quicker rapid fire of the 20D.

Keep in mind I have never really used an SLR until I got this camera. I have always wanted to get into photography but the price always seemed like it was to much.

Thanks for your input.

The 10D is a very good camera!! The price you paid is one of those to good to be true deals!! More professionals are probably still using 10D'S than any other camera.

The 10D is a very good camera, despite it's slow startup (compared to the more recent DSLRs) and 3 fps burst rate. I have the 1DmkII but I still use the 10D and the pictures I get with it are still just as good as the day I bought the 10D. :)

BTW, I think you got a got deal on the 10D.

I think I got a deal too, which is why I purchased it without having much photograpy experience....

As soon as someone points me in a good direction for some free photo hosting sites ill start putting my pictures up here.

Thanks again.

I sometimes miss my 10D - very handy size, great image quality, sturdy, and it operates much like my Canon Elan film camera did.

I've needed a second body for a while and have been watching for another 10D to go along with the one I all ready have - I just could find a deal that I was willing to part with my money for. I just bought a 20D from Dell and used it this weekend - and to be honest - I just don't see what all the excitement is all about. Sure there isn't instant start up... I don't worry about that though because I set the timeout long enough that the 10D never turns off while shooting, and I still get about 700 shots per charge - and 1300 with dual batties. The 10D is a heck of a lot quiter... you can shoot candids a lot more stealth, and 11x14 is really the largest images I produce so 6 mP is more then enough for me. The 20D also has its own unique issues with AF, but so did the 10D when I first got it. So net-net... I don't thing there is much you can't do with the 10d that you would have been able to with the 20D - you did good.
