Spent a little time at the dam again today. The Herons were there, but they didn't seem to be in the mood to fly around much (well, it was about 90 degrees this afternoon so I suppose that may have influenced their behavior). Light was a lot better than last attempt, and I used a little exposure compensation to brighten things up a bit (the water was fooling the meter into underexposing a bit).

Anyway, here's a couple for the viewing pleasure.

The first one stands proud and strong:

The next one has a bit of a skinny pencil-neck. He doesn't look real healthy, but it may be a young GBH. I haven't studied them very well.

Finally, number 3 must not be very hungry as it is watching me instead of looking for fish in the water.

Thanks. #1 is the only normal/typical of the 3. The other two were unusual in either their physique or their stance.

Yeah, there's plenty of them around the dam here. They line up at the edge of the water, and on occasion, one or two will fly out to grab a fish.

They also tend to perch themselves on the railroad bridge, evenly spaced just as on the ground:

Then, as a train approaches, they leave their perch, one by one:
