Snowcross returned to the Lindsay Exhibition Grounds and the track is basically surrounded by a chain link fence and makes you feel you are shooting in a dog kennel. Toss in a grandstand, light standards, the usual flagman and orange cones along with dirty parking lot snow and it was interesting. Of course Sunday would dawn cloudy with a threat of rain and it did start as the final race got underway, but the track had been tamed down to try and avoid crashes and time consuming injuries, but it also took away some great shots.
Here is a couple from 1st round of editting.

Great shots! I'm always amazed at what snow mobiles can do! I used to race ATV motocross, but these things weigh like 800 lbs. + don't they?

I think a stock 600cc sled tips the scales in the 450 pound range and on the mod sleds they can use Ti and carbon fibre, so they can get the weight down to around just over 400 pounds dry weight if you want to spend the money.

oh wow, thats not as bad as I thought then. Don't really get enough snow down where i'm at, so don't really see sled's too often, lol.

Those pictures deserve my best compliment. They deserve to be printed LARGE. The bottom one could use some work to make the snow a little less gray, but those are great images.

That IS the colour the snow was, its stuff scraped out of parking lots at malls, fast food places etc.

So THAT's how they make the tracks, I figured they were just snow covered dirtbike tracks... Good use of parking lot snow ! RECYCLE

The US based ISOC series which took over the bankrupt WPSA series actually make snow and it is as pristine and white as can be, they also make it very deep, so if a racer falls off, he doesn't get hurt too often, as it is like falling into a pillow. Our series always ends up down to the dirt, as there is never enough snow trucked in.
We have a combined CSRA/ISOC race that is 2 hours from home and the only one I am looking forward too, as the track is also dressed up much much nicer with tuff blocks and flags. The rest of our series is held at some pretty homely facilites, which makes getting anything with an appealing background a tough one.

The question is, can you get the same access you had at this one? Access is a huge part of taking great pics.

Oh yes, I am well known enough by most in that series that access will not be a problem, as I have had it for the last two seasons during the combined race in Valcourt Quebec.

Great shots :) The first one is my favorite, lots of action and nice clear colors in that picture.
