I have to agree, black and white would do nicely.

I can't show the entire engine as this is the way I composed it with my 50mm last year. As for the B&W, here is a picture of the engine in that way.

as a gearhead myself, that photo doesn't really show any one complete system/part of the engine, which tells the amateur photographer in me that it's too tight. I could see focusing on the complete blower belt in portrait, or the supercharger case itself in landscape, better yet, the entire power plant, headers and all.

I don't mind the tight crop of the photo. For me, I have found trying to get the whole motor usually ended up with to much clutter in the background or surrounding it. All a matter of preference in the end, but I like it.
