Hey Guys,

I've been getting alot of praise for my Racing and "Normal" photography. I have a friend who has asked me to help her with some of her fashion photography. She has 2 experienced models, and everything else on that aspect.

My gear is: Canon 500D, nifty fifty, 18-55mm, 55-250mm, Manfrotto 055xpro with RC488 ball head and various filters.

The shots are going to be outdoors, perhaps at a garden or a mansion. Whats a good time of day? Should I invest in a flash and diffuser?

I have never done this so can you guys offer some help, resources, etc please.

SkyHye-

"Fashion Photography" is a huge field with many different styles. You also provide no detail on the goals of the shoot, the output format, resource options, etc.

Most fashion photography uses controlled or artificial light. Its also common to have good clothes, makeup and hair styling. With little experiece in this style, I hppe you are able to moderate the expectation of your friends and models.

My best adivice to you is:
1) Study good fashion photographs with your friend.
2) Buy a flash and practice with non models before your shoot.
3) Consider personal training from a more experienced fashion photographer.

Good Luck-
Scott

Wow, great tips Scott! I think I'm going to get the Speedlite 430EX II flash, but I'm befuddled by diffusers. Whats a good one?

SH-

You will get the most flatering people pictures at longer distances-10'+. At longer distances diffusers will have almost no affect and just steal your flash power-do not bother.

For outside flash use try:iv
ISO200, partial metering, centerpoint focus, AV mode F4, EC=+ 1/3rd, Flash -1/3rd head on at subject.

Practice is the key to success.
