I've reread the posting instructions five times, must be a mental block, 2+2= 5 right?

Hope pix will post properly this time around. First time shooting MMA, lighting was pretty good, the cage made it difficult. Most shots with 40D and 70-200 or Tammy 17-50, both 2.8, 1250 ISO and 1/500. C&C please. Thanks for looking.

Not bad.

One issue I have is that every shot is a close-up. Some close-ups are good to have, but this is MMA- you should have some wide angle, full body shots, too. The armbar attempt comes close to illustrating my point.

Nicely shot, but looks pretty brutal! You might want to edit your first post above to say the pics are posted below; I just happened to scroll down to find them, but many people might not.

Nice to see some tight shots, but I agree, you should go wide for most of them to show the technique, action, ect.

I shoot a little boxing and MMA here and there, so I'll throw in my 2 cents for what it's worth...

The first shot I like, and it looks good tight, you get a good sense of the choke and the expressions on the face are very good -- nice job.

Shots 2&3 are good action captures, nice timing, not crazy about the crops. I'm not big on verts especially when fighters are flat on the ground (#3), I might actually go a bit tighter on #2, taking off the guy on the right, but again, good captures.

Shot 4/5 I'm assuming you are going for a look at the cut, it works, little tighter might have been better, but either way it works.

Shot 6 - Strong image, really like it...

Shot 7 - Vert works on shots like this, but you need to go a bit wider, get the full bodies, don't cut the feet or body of either fighter...

Shot 8 - not much to say, a throw away image. Assume you were looking at the fighter's tattoo, but it doesn't do much (for me at least)

I tend to shoot UFC/MMA work a bit wider than I do boxing. Unless there is a knockdown, legs are fairly meaningless in boxing, MMA is a different story and often full bodies add to the image, although when in doubt "tight is usually right"

Good work.

Ed

Thanks for all your comments. I do have wide shots as well but these really appealled to me. I'll post new pix tomorrow. Thanks.
