Sorry, can't comment. The second I heard music I clicked off your site. Many other will too.

Edit: For the record, I'm not trying to be snotty here. I personally hate sites that force music. So do many others. And yes, you may get people who continue past the music so they can evaluate and critique your site as you asked. However, outside the confines of this POTN thread - in the general public - there are many who also hate music on sites and when they come to it, they're gone. The question is, do you want to create a site with a feature that causes people to click off, whatever that percentage may be, or do you want as many people as possible on your site?

I appreciate that a lot. I will put the option tu turn it on, however I will leave it off for a while to see how it goes.
I usually agreed with you on the music, and I hate sites like that, however it itīs a non intrusive music I donīt mind it, but like you said, some people not just DO mind it, they hate it.
SO good advise, thanks.

You're welcome.

BTW, define "intrusive." What is intrusive music in your opinion?

4 me is a music that distracts you from whatever you are paying attention to on a webpage.
Thanks

I'm there to look at pictures, not listen to music. That does detract from the original purpose of visiting the site.

Play out this scenario, someone has seen your URL and is dead set on seeing your work. Well, they're at work and head to your site. Well, unbeknownst to them, their speakers are cranked. Yep, you guessed it. Not only are people staring and they feel stupid, they will not return to your site. Now you've lost a potential client. If you are gung-ho on having music on your site, give them the option to turn it on, but don't force it on them.

Good answer. One more question.

Let's pretend you get 100 visitors a day to your website. Can you answer this question: how does each individual visitor define distracting - what type of music does each like and dislike?

Can you answer that question about each visitor before they come to your site so you can modify the music and customize it for them?

You did nothing wrong. You just made the mistake every person who uses music on a website makes: they assume everybody in the world shares the same likes and dislikes in their taste in music.

And you know what? They don't. They may absolutely hate your choice in music.

And the second they hear it, poof! They're gone.

To me, ANY music is intrusive on a webpage because I'm ALWAYS listening to music already, either over Pandora or iTunes.

And that's the point I was trying to make.

Unless a website owner can determine who will be coming to their site, under what conditions or environment that user will be in, what their likes and dislikes are, what speed their internet connection is, etc., etc. it is best to reduce issues that may cause the user to go away. That's all... voiced my opinion... unsubscribing.

Keep the music off. The first thing I do to a site that plays unwanted sound of any kind is to close it. Otherwise it is fine and straight forward.
