Backlit Bouganvilla

My first photo post here...

I figure that if I'm going to learn anything at all, I need teachers, right? I took this picture with my Canon S40 (going to get my Rebel soon!) and it's the first time I've ever achieved any DOF effect. I know it's not much, but I think it looks kind of nice for what I was working with. I'd love any feedback on this and artistic ideas on composition, lighting, etc.

The subject seems confusing and undefined as there's so much in the view.

I wish that I could have blurred out the background more. :( I just really loved the bright colors and how the stamens were silhouetted through the petels.

Good start! Keep at it! I'd have tried to find an angle without the stem running through the bloom. Or stomped that sucker flat! (No, Mom would kill me. I would have held it out of the way, though! ;-)
