Heres a couple from our hike yesterday. This is Lower Cataract Lake, the falls were a straight uphill hike, that I am still feeling today, but it was worth it. Had to battle bright sunshine and bugs but whattya do. Anyway...........Joe

Unfortunatley, it was about the same, unless you were in the shade and the mist. The climb made it even hotter, and carrying the camera on the tripod and climbing with one hand only added to the situation.
I appreciate the kind words and the rating, thanks all.............Joe

Whats the best way to get a good exposure of clouds, i've been trying recently and there are plenty of clouds but when i shoot they are clear, I think i is because it was a very bright day, how did you get such a good exposure of your clouds ?

Great shots, Joe. Tell me where this is and how far is the hike. I'd love to see it.

Lower Cataract Lake is past Silverthorn on hwy 9. Head to a little town called Heeney. A narrow dirt road will take you to the lake.(1/4 mi from parking lot). The falls on the the other hand are a completely different story. When you get to the lake look across and up, way up and you can see the falls, the climb is a b$*&^, it is almost straight up in places, a not very defined trail gets you started and then you have to look for it all the way up, I think my wife and I made some new routes along the way. The whitewater boils down the mountain in a wall of water seems like a 1/4 mile long or better, the noise is deafening, the spray is refreshing but constant, had to cover my camera more than once. It was worth it though. If you do climb to the top PLEASE BE CAREFUL and have fun.............Joe

I like both photos... I would say it was worth the hard work to get these. Would you mind sharing the setting you used to get the photo of the falls. I would love to try my hand at it someday.

Sure, ISO 100 / f/22 / manual mode / 2.0 sec exposure / 28 mm end of a 28-90 / a 3 stop ND filter and a lens hood. Hope this helps.................Joe

So the secret must be in the 2 sec exposure time... and the use of a tripod. Thanks for sharing... I just need to find someplace with a nice waterfall and give it a try.

Yes a tripod and remote release are very key elements. You live in Oregon you shouldn't have any trouble finding some falls, (multnomah). Anyway good luck and post what you get for us.....Joe

Thanks for the info, Joe, I'll try to get there during our stay in Colorado. Not sure I can make it up to the falls.
