Hi Guys and Gals..
Been browsing thru several forums here for a long time now.. and decided that I could post one or two small images (in one of my favourite topics) as a way of introducing myself.
The Canadian - German Air Museum in Baden Soellingen was recently visited by one of the few flying examples of a Messerschmitt ME109.
Here are a couple of shots that came out ok...
Oh.. by the way... I would like to take this opportunity to thank Pekka for his great Gallery work. I started playing with EE a year or two ago.. and decided that it would be a good time to get serious now, with 1.5 RC 4.
I would also like to thank all the members who have answered the many questions that other people have asked for me.. :)
ciao..

Hello Lee, WELCOME to the forum, and thanks for starting off with these photos. :D
The ME 109 is certainly a rare one to see in flight. Nice shots. ;)

Hi Bruce.. Thank you for the compliment.. and the welcome. :)
I made these shots with a nice (borrowed) 200/F1.8 Canon lens. (older model..)
We got real 'up close and personal' on the ground, (as you can see in these other shots) but 200mm just wasn't long enough in the air. (after all, this is a small airplane)
He did a couple of fly-bys.. and departed. :(
The toss up now is between the 100-400 and the 70-200.
(will depend on the upcoming events that I will be doing pics for...)

That's a very nice shot! The only one we've ever had here was in pieces on a trailer. ;-)

Some of the boys at the Museum asked me if I was interested in working there.. helping to restore some other aircraft... and seeing as I have an interest and lots of experience... I said "Sure!"
They have one or two other planes in need of assembly :D
(will let you know what else is lurking around on trailers in the hangar...)
oh..yes.. I shoot 99.99% RAW too.. and Manually push the button!! ;)

You will enjoy working on the old girls! Its will pay for itself when you meet the Vets and hear there story of the old days. I crewed on a B-25 for many years and met a lot of vets and took the time to listen to them.
Cheers,
Lynn

Lynn... I have some shots of a nice B-25 (on film) that I still have to get developed!! I'll let you know as soon as I get them.

Absolutely beautiful, I would love to see one of these in the air. Where abouts in germany is this? I can't seem to find much info...

If I'm not mistaken it's the G2 variant of the 109. =)
Nice pictures. It's truely my favorite plane. There's something beautiful about it's rugged ugly look. While people like the pretty spitfires and mustangs...I love this beast.

I completely agree.... german aircraft have the down-to-business beauty that's often unappreciated :D

Myth,
awesome shots!
I didn't know that there were still some of these monsters flying.
My favourite, however, was the ME262
Would love to see one of these in nature.
Best regards,
Andy

Insomnia: This was at my old Air Force Base in Baden Soellingen, Germany... near Baden Baden, about an hour and a half south of Frankfurt in the Black Forest.
Here is a link to the museum website: http://www.airforcemuseumsoellingen.de/News.html
Jackal: The docs say this is a G4 variant. you can look at the link above for more details. (they have some info in English too..)
Andy: If I find out where there are any 262's, I'll let you know. ;)
Lynn: Here is a shot of a B-25.. same place, different date.
and as for the comments about "still some of these monsters flying."...

the pilot lost it on a cross wind landing 15.07.2005. here are some pics (http://www.messerschmitt-bf109.de/php-uebersicht/ueberlebende-ausgabe.php?flugzeug=83) ..
the page is in german, the [ nachste Seite > ] means next page...
and a discussion in a forum (http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=45496)
Pilot was ok.. but it looks like they got a few more years of restoration work in front of them...

The only difference between the G2 and G4 pretty much was that the front wheels were slightly larger. Other than that they're pretty damn identical. Pretty hard to tell from that picture because the tires are in shadows. ;)

At least it wasn't a complete loss.... I was so close to seeing her in the air too! :(

Mr. Jackal... There was a time I could tell almost any aircraft make / model by the sound of its engine... or from the sillouette miles away. (military / civilian / current / old timer)
Before I took these pictures, this guy could have landed on top of me, and I probably wouldn't have recognized it until I read the name plate on the firewall!!
I'm out of touch with a lot of things these days... working in a different world.
.. either that or I must be getting old... ;)
Insomnia.. if I get in contact again with the guys who are working on it.. should I tell them you're interested in helping to restore it?? :p

Of course, I'd LOVE to volunteer whenever I can spare some time. Do you have any idea where it's at now?

Let me know if they need any help, I'd be more than happy. I might mention I don't have my A&P yet, but I'm a f-16 crew chief and can turn a wrench ;)

Lee,
awful to hear that they grounded the plane!
Now ... I've got 2 left hands and most likely wouldn't do much good with a wrench ... but I'd volunteer to take some shots of the rebuild :p
Best regards,
Andy

Now ... I've got 2 left hands... should be ok as long as you stay on one side of the airplane... ;)
