The school where I do 90% of my shooting had a situation where one of their star basketball players was rush to the hospital. The news media decided to do a story on what happened but didn't have any photos to run with the story. The AD called me and asked if they could use some of the photos I have taken during the season. I dropped of some photos and waited patiently while they stated "coming up next!" Anyway - the story ran...with about eight of my pictures...aren't/weren't they required to give me photo credit or did I release them by giving them to the reporter?
Secondly, do you donate photos to the booster club who asked you so they can put them into a large card? He will never play again!
Thanks for your imput! Andy

I've had my pics on television before... with my logo intact. I didn't get credited, but didn't bother me though, because they were for a friend and business partner and they were doing a story on his gym.

Sure. Print out a 4x6 that cost about $.12 and "donate" it.

If you gave them to the reporter without any restrictions you basically said "do what you want with these". Don't sweat it, photo credit is mostly worthless. In the future however, know that if you're going to give/sell images that you need to define their usage, whether it's the school, booster club, media, etc.

You did the right thing by giving the media the files. It was a sad story and to be honest, people watching it wouldn't pay attention to your name being mentioned.
I donate a few shots from each game, for the teams to put on their web sites. They place a link on there site to mine, for people to go and purchase photos.

I agree that you did the right thing by letting them use your photos, and I would have no problem with supplying anything requested for the card for the injured athlete.
But the newspaper should have given you photo credits. Or, if they didn't know who took them, at least they should credit them as courtesy photos from the school. Any reputable photo editor should know better than to run a photo without any credit at all.
