I think your logo is a bit too big. You logo itself is eye-catching, but I'm not sure that's a good thing. The logo itself looks a bit amateurish. The font just looks like a generic script.

If you're concerned about SEO (Google it if you don't what that means), then you need a lot of work. Right now your home page just says 'Home Page'. How do you think a potential client is going to find your website? The only other text on your home page is "Proudly Serving Alabama." your e-mail and phone number. You need a good <title> tag to include your location and a few of your keywords (specialties) and the word 'photography' or 'photographer'. You should also add a short bio (what, where, who etc) to your home page.

If your not concerned about people finding you online, then disregard this. :)

Mike...I re-read this and this is a common theme I have found....people on here do not seme to like logo's having a dominant pressance on websites....I understand the need to display 'pictures' but I disagree with this notion. Certainly not an attack on you....but in business, especially in a competitive field....it is important to have brand recognition. My logo is dominant on my website, facebook page and business cards....because I want people to remember it. My pics may be outstannding but if they can't remember who produced them, it does not matter.

SO I think a logo should be very visable and easy to remember....brand pressance. For my specific situation....I live in Alabama and am British. People in the south love Britain...hence the use of the British flag and inc into my name....and it works for the word of mouth business I want to generate amongst 'moms'. May be different elsewhere.

Excuse my spelling....my 6 month old girl is confusing me!

Cheers

For what it is worth, displaying your logo large isn't a bad thing, but I think the proportions are a little off--that's my take anyway. Logo can be large, but it shouldn't be the dominant part of the site. I'd save my images differently as well. You'd be better served as a general rule saving files like the image of the children on your "about me" page as a jpg instead of a gif--smaller file size and a more accurate representation of the smooth variations in colors found in actual photos. gifs are MUCH better for things like colors and images that have only a few colors.

Regardless of your interest in people tracking you down and SEO, I'd still change the title tags on your site to something meaningful. If people choose to bookmark your site, you will want them to know what it is, not just "home page."

Hope this helps. Oh, and hello from North Alabama.

I agree; you don't want your logo to take attention away from your content.

Hmm....okay I give-in...I have decreased the size of my logo.....does it look okay or should it be even smaller? (although I am not sure I will do that! :) )

JoeW some great points, many thanks....completely new to everything here, picked up my first camera and started using it 6 months ago! I have changed the homepage tag...and will do so for all the other pages....just figured out how to do it....thanks for the image type info aswell! If you get a moment will you take another lok at my logo size and tag for the homepage and see if I am on track....Cheers!

Hi,

Like the new logo size. Still noticible, but not as overpowering...

Your "about me" page isn't currently loading. I think you are on the right track otherwise. Good luck. You have some really interesting photos.

When I loaded your page there are two images missing, small ones above and below the slideshow. I have no clue what they are because you didn't use alt attributes for them - something you should always do just in case the image fails to load as it did in my case.

I didn't see the bigger logo, but I really like the logo itself. Then again, I have an "all things British fetish", too. LOL!

Anyway, I do feel there is too much wasted space, and it could be tightened up a bit to decrease the need for vertical scrolling easy enough.

Also, I found the navigation bar at the top hard to find. My eye first dismissed it as a black bar with white text that my browser put there that I ignore all the time. I actually had to search for it to find it.
