The Sigma 18-200 seems to have better ratings head to head with the Tamron 18-200. I cannot find anyone that has compared the Sigma 18-200 vs. the Canon 28-135 I.S.( Image Stabilizer) lens. I'm an airline pilot that only wants to carry a single lens, but do not want to give up picture quality in the process. I like the range of the Sigma especially on the wide-angle end, which I shot a lot of. I feel the Canon 28-135 I.S., which some experts say it’s Canon’s best zoom lens for the money, especially considering the I.S. feature. I shot a lot of shots while flying across the country from the cockpit window (at altitudes between 10,000 & 40,000 ft) and feel the I.S. could come in handy please help a Canon 20D user.

Have you also looked at the Canon 17-85mm IS?

Else for IS your only options are the
Canon 17-85mm IS EF-S
Canon 28-135mm IS USM EF

If you need IS on a 200mm focal length you will need to look at the

Canon 75-300mm IS USM EF
Canon 70-300mm IS DO EF
Canon 70-200mm IS f2.8L
Canon 28-300mm L IS

But if you need 18mm wide and the 200mm focal length you will be stuck with the Sigma or Tamron lens. Both are going to be a bit under performing at 200mm so the 28-135mm IS is likely a better lens for it's total range. The key for you, is 28mm going to be wide enough for you?

If you own a kit lens 18-55mm EF-S the 28-135mm IS may be a good compromise for needing an IS lens.

seems like this is not a good 3 lenses to compare..the canon is a much shorter zoom range than the other two. I personally wouldn't buy a lens with a 10x zoom

Me neither, I wouldn't touch a hyper zoom lens. The image quality just isn't there... another option would be the tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens. Wicked sharp lens. A great piece of glass.

Out of the lenses you mentioned though, I think the 28-135mm would be your best bet. I've seem some really high quality sharp images taken with it.
