Not too far off, let's back up a bit.

Qtrmeg
5th of March 2006 (Sun), 11:20
Is this one really that hard? Well, it is more likely to be recognized by country folk, and you are going to flip your lid when you see what it is.

Mike Bell
5th of March 2006 (Sun), 14:18
Is it the metal lid of a jar? The red is the stuff that provides the air tight seal, isn't it?

Qtrmeg
5th of March 2006 (Sun), 15:24
That's exactly what it is. This is the lid part of a 2 piece cover for canning jars, the band being the other part.

Geese, I thought I was going to get thrown off the island for that one.

BearLeeAlive
5th of March 2006 (Sun), 15:26
That was a great on Qtrmeg, you should have not given such a good hint right away. Once you said the 'flip your lid' thing I knew exactly what it was, only I am much older and slower than Mike is....lol

Mike Bell
5th of March 2006 (Sun), 15:29
It was the 'flip your lid' clue that made me sure! We have similar jars in the UK. Good one.

Here is mine. No clues (yet)! :)

Hehe! It is a tricky one. I'm off to work now so here are a couple of cryptic clues:

1. You will all have seen one of these at least once in your lives, not always in happy circumstances.
2. I have one but most people don't.

No! Check the clues - I am a doctor, not a law enforcement or military guy.

Well it does fit the clues (except I don't have a pacemaker!) but no.

Take note of all the clues (sound is involved, you've probably seen one before but not always in happy circumstances, and most people don't have one but I do - in fact it's on my desk in the hospital right now!)
