I have just popped in to the office for a moment and am off to deal with some work issues, then hopefully away for the night. I will take my camera with me and get some interesting macros while I am gone, I promise.

Where'd all those "new, I never get to post anything" people go? I can't post anything. I'm leaving for Dauphin Island in the morning and I won't have time to check in (or maybe not internet access for that matter) otherwise I'd throw something (easy to guess no doubt) up.

juneappal
3rd of May 2006 (Wed), 16:14
Shish-kebab sticks are used to skewer meat and veggies for grilling on a barbeque. They are a little thicker than a tooth-pick and 10-12" long.
Pick up sticks are about the same size, but have colored bands on them. If you are of the appropriate mental age, you drop them in a pile then take turns trying to remove one stick without disturbing any others.
I don't know what a cocktail stick is.
Even if one of these is correct, I yield my turn to RumJungle. If he hadn't guessed toothpicks, I would have guessed rubber nubs on the bottom of a pair of indoor soccer shoes.

I have been trying to remember where I had seen a close-up of a strawberry before, and I just did. Two years ago, National Geographic did a story on diamonds. In some editions (including mine) the front cover had a photo of a strawberry in which each seed was replaced with a tiny diamond. The photo isn't as impressive on the web as it was on glossy cover-stock, but you can see it briefly here:http://magma.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/data/2002/03/01/html/hm_20020301.html">http://magma.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/data/2002/03/01/html/hm_20020301.html The photo briefly appears in the animation at the middle of the page, but is also show in thumbnail size to the right..

OK - here' are some clues.
This object has many pieces. Most of them are connected together in the factory. You are seeing two of them that are NOT connected together. Because they are not connected, many people lose the white piece and a similar grey piece.
The field of vision in this photo is about 1/2 inch across.

you use it every day, and the diameter of the picture is 1cm
you would normally find it in your bedroom or bathroom

It's sewing thread, but I guess it's the same thing as string wrapped around a handle...just thinner.

Go for it photobitz.

Awww thanks. I knew that pattern was familiar. I'm going to hand over to exile though because I think his ball of string answer was a little more on the mark. Essentially it is an organised ball of string... lol
I also don't have a picture to post yet either.

Fire away Mr Exile...
