Yo Sunshine, when did you slide that macro lens into your kit, well done. ;)
I still yearn for a real macro lens.

Is it a decorative tile?

Storm's over, BBQ is over, beers are gone - and I'm back. Thanks for keeping it going in my absence. Makes up for my intrusion some days ago. Bit unsure about that last one though. And yes, Geurie is 'midway' between Dubbo and Wellington in New South Wales, Australia (Oz). Hence the FotOz tag. Google Earth would have put you "right in the picture". :)

Thompsunshine

Bearly, I got my lens roughly a month ago. I am tickled about it too!

Not a decorative tile.
Not the base of something.
Not painted ceramic.
Not a candle turned sideways.
The picture isn't sideways.
Not a picture frame.
And lastly, not a bathroom fitting.

On the one hand I am relatively surprised that no one is even close. On the other hand, I suspected I would need to give hints (he he he). I love giving hints.

It is metal. It is an actual utilitarian item, although I wouldn't imagine they are used much anymore. This type of item would have been used weekly 100 years ago. ROFL Still confused?

Edit: Oh, and today is my birthday. :-)

Thank you Chansh. Very much appreciated. I feel pretty certain you have seen these before or at least heard of them. And when I was viewing my pic, if I didn't know what it was already I would have suspected the same thing for cakes.

Well, before this photo it was all one length half way down my back, then I cut it shorter when I went back to school as in this avatar, then it got cut shorter and shorter but still a full head, went for a bunch of chemotherapy 17 years ago and was bald as a cucumber for a while, it all grew back it, then it slowly started to fade on the top, 5 yrs ago I started shaving it to an extremely short length before it all fell out anyway, now love the low maitenance thing. I have a big head which helps.

Wow! Makes the life history of my beard pretty tame, but I'll tell it anyway AS WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR THE NEXT SMGG SHOT. I grew it just about the time I qualified from medical school. When you work 84-104 hours a week shaving time is just too precious! My girlfriend liked it so much she agreed to marry me. :D My daughter was born 4 years later and did her best to pull it out as soon as she worked out what baby hands were for! I had to shave it off a few years later to have some surgery. When I came out of the bathroom both my kids (aged 7 and 4 at the time) ran to their bedrooms and refused to come out. "That's not my Daddy!" one of them sobbed. So I grew it back again. Now it's gone rather grey! :(

Actually yeah exactly that. That's almost better than figuring out what the item is. :)

I should point out the item isn't directly related to surveying. It just happened to be in the line of fire when I managed to put a pag down on top of a can of the stuff in just the right way to spray it all over the place. I also got one partially pink boot as well and they were only a few weeks old.

PADLOCK!

Said it was easy. Getting on the first guess is still pretty good though. :)

Hopefully that has belayed the gnawing for a while. Maybe we should ask if they can add PotN chew toys to the PotN store so we have something to gnaw on next time.

Nope on all so far..

It takes no electricity.

Only people in a few specialized professions would carry this.

Rather than just a plain ol' thingy I think its more specifically a thingamabob. A thingamabob is like a thingamajig, just a bit heavier.

Maybe a gadget of some kind.

LMAO! I love that. You went from being very creative and all gung ho to giving up in 12 words or less! LMAO That is great! You made me smile. Thank you.

Edit: And your first post to boot! Welcome to SMGG...it is addicting. You have been warned!;-)

Is it some sort of jewelry? It looks almost like there are stones in the top... a comb of some sort?
Actually, the bottom reminds me of a fork....

Is it a hair clip? Like one of those ones that looks like scary teeth? Or...the kind of comb you use to pin your hair up? or a barrett of some sort?

Epluim
4th of November 2006 (Sat), 09:13
or is it maybe just something decorative that has teeth to hold it in your hair... a tiara or something sparkly someone might wear to a dance...

SpiltPickle

I was going to say an insole from a shoe, but that does not seem to be something that is gender favored. If not that, how about a hair brush?

Well done jr#8! :D

"Very close" - to keep them interested
"It has 2 uses" - pretty useless clue (the best type!) - after all what doesn't have 2 uses?
"Steppin out for awhile" - now , THAT is good, must use that one!
"But I'll be back" - LOVE IT! Sort of holding out hope but being macho and Schwarzeneggerish all at the same time!

You are a master SMGGitis-inducer! I salute you, sir!
