Is the green part of the object or the surface it was sitting on?
aLFaDaRK
14th of November 2006 (Tue), 16:47
Green is part of the object, but, it's not always green - only for a few seconds at a time usually.
And it is a device, and depending on where you put it, it can be removable, but it is not always a removable device - sometimes it's a normal device.

I know what you mean, Stewart. I have felt a bit left out recently too. I've been posting in SMGG for almost a year and the group of people here changes from time to time. Right now we have quite a few 'gadget freaks' in our little community. People post macros of what is around them - it's understandable.
I would like it if people tried to only post pics of very common objects that we all should be familiar with. But <sighs deeply> I have aspirations to a form of self disciplined utopian order found only in the most civilised societies. So .... not much chance of that here, eh?

Nope. I do agree. The objects should be things that anyone (hey, we're on a forum with users worldwide, aren't we?) can guess. Common objects or objects that exist in some form (at least almost) worldwide. Specific brands and designs (eg. of electronic equipment) varies from country to country and makes guessing impossible....

For sure, most of these electronic items I have no clue about. People can post what they like, but it would be best if it was not too region or brand specific as that eliminates people like me, a redneck from Alberta, from guessing. ;)

I know I have been guilty of a too brand specific macro before, and I caught flak for it. I try to find things the majority would know once the big picture is revealed. I just gotta learn to identify my nuts is all.

I still feel that people want way to specific on an answer for some of these things. Or that sometimes people take a picture of an object that has no detail that might lead to guess other then some sort of plastic thing. This doesn't apply to all the recent posts but when the only way to guess it is with the clues and posting 9 guesses of different brands/devices then I don't find the game that interesting.
This is just my opinion and I don't want to discourage anyone from posting but I think it's something to keep in mind. Feel free to disagree if you like.

It is up to the poster to decide how specific the answer should be, that is their perogitive. For example, I want to see almond as an answer instead of nut.
If a photo is lacking detail that is no problem either as long as the poster provides hints, as this will keep it interesting and people involved.
I do agree with the brand specific items, I have not even tried to guess at them as I have no clue. This is where the answer should not be specific, only generic, like 'TV remote'
I think the main parameter for what you post is that once identified the vast majority of people will know what it is.
I still think the biggest issue we face is ensuring that eveyone will post a macro fairly soon after correctly identifying the object, and then monitor it as frequently as possible.
ANARCHY RULES!!!!!! :p

I think if you give it 12 hours since there last response that should be a fair Statute of Limitations as it should give them time to either wake up or get home from work if needed.

Perhaps that is the problem. Posting giving a clue and then leaving for 10 hours makes the game long and frustrating. I realize people can't be here every minute but it seems like 9 times out of 10 I i get here inbetween a correct guess and the next post.

I would say a mobile phone/cell phone is pretty universal these days (certainly amongst the types of people using DSLSRs) while a pecan (for example) may be a pretty exotic item in some parts of the world. It is impossible for someone to know what things will transcend different cultures and which will not.
Also if you restrict the macros to just very generic common items the game would get very repetitive.
Anyway, the "F4" one to me looked like a dial on a washing machine.

My first post on this thread was 11,056 posts ago and there has been next to nothing repetitive. There are literally 1000's of options of common items out there. For example, you could do one of the 1000's of mushroom in the world and I am sure most people would know what is once identified. In this case specific species would just be rude.
Sorry I haven't been on for a while - went to sleep right after I posted and still at school.

funny you say sawing logs - i am in the process of cutting down a tree, bloody thing has been the bane of my life for the last four years. so today it gets what it deserves.
(i am replacing it with a native tree - so no crying from the greenies);)

Don't like your chances. There's a real good westerly blowing today - straight to the Shakies. You can have it - ALL!
