Not a plastic figure
Skrim17
9th of February 2007 (Fri), 20:16
Not plastic, not metal, not caulking...two solids used in construction.
the wood on the side looks like end grain but I can't be sure as it is a macro, what do we put in wood that is comprised of two solids?
BearLeeAlive

Wood is one of the solids in the item. The black on the left the other.

a tangerineA tangerine is a type of orange. So no.a fishNo. Not remotely fishy.marble cheeseNot cheese of any kind.A stain? No. This is the genuine colour of the object in question.a carrot? No. But you're the closest so far.colby jack cheeseNot any kind of cheese.an orange peelWell, that's really splitting hairs after I'd already said it is not an orange. No.mutant candy corn? It's not candy corn (whatever that is) and it's not a mutant anything. Well, having said that, I've never seen an object of this type quite like this before, which is why I bought it, but there were lots of them in the shop all very similar. I suspect it is a deliberately created variety rather than being a mutant. That would be my guess, too.Well you'd be wrong, too.

well a sponge that is slightly wet and dryNot a sponge. It's carrot or pumpkin soup with sour cream or similar in it.Not any kind of soup.
This is a solid object. The yellow/orange colouration is natural and inherent in the object. It does not arise as a consequence of different parts of the object being in different states (e.g. partially wet and partially dry). It does not arise as a consequence of mixing two substances (e.g. soup and cream).

You said carrot was the closest, so is it a root crop of some sort?
StewartR
15th of February 2007 (Thu), 07:10
gourdWell, where I come from the term "gourd" usually refers to a hollow, dried shell of some sort of squash. But in other parts of the world it is also used to refer to the squash before it is dried out, and I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.
My local supermarket calls it a "sunshine squash", though it might be called other things in other places. The Missouri Botanical Garden website (http://www.mobot.org/gardeninghelp/plantfinder/Squash.asp) has pictures of about 150 varieties of squash, and this looks more like their "festival" or "sweet lightning" squashes than their "sunshine" squash.
Anyway, here's the whole object. Your turn, Crissa.
