This is Owen! He was born early yesterday and I met him and his lovely mum in the evening.

He was my first subject in a series of 12 prints I'm producing for the hospital he was born in. The finals will be of many different parents and their new babies as 20 x 30 prints, black and white, but I've shown this one family's series here with toning and colour. The images are meant to promote the first "skin-to-skin" contact between parents in the first minutes and days after the baby arrives.

1. (likely my pick for the final series)

Hoff, these are truly outstanding. Something all of us should strive for. The first shot is indeed a keeper. Well done.

Oh Hoff, one question, did you use one or two speedlights in the dish?

Thank you!! This mom was so nice to work with; she made it easy.

I have the dual speedlite bracket but only had one in. At f/1.6 and with the distance of the dish I think I was on 1/16 to 1/32 with just the one.

Thanks so much! It is the Sigma 50/1.4. I have tried to go with simple setup like window light because, hopefully, I will get a few for the series during the day and they do have awesome windows in most rooms so I won't need a light. I've been bringing a 2nd light setup but have gone with just 1 light so far.

Amazing - love #3, 4 and 6 for the project, although they are all brilliant. You have really captured the emotion of this special time. Please continue to share the series!
