the sun shone today and everyone looked wonderful.
yesterday was like winter , today was scorching. just in time for all http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif
edit
sorry
was trying to make the pictures smaller
will try again later
both sites I post pictures on are not working properly
for resizing.
I couldn't get the smaller sizes to show
and Pbase seems to be having trouble for a few days now
shows only the red x's a lot
edit later
got the smaller sizes working on pbase
the red x's gone for now

Very nice Marie!!
Looks like quite a 'charming' day indeed!
Lots of color!! Gotta love that!
And do you use the "shadow/highlight" tool to do your adjustments?

I used shadow/highlight alright
not sure if I done it to your liking thoughhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
I don't always use it as I find it distorts the colour image sometimes and it's better not to ( just for some shots)
the colours may seem a little too muchhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif
but it really was so colourful there
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif
(I was using a fuji memory card. always found their film for the old slr shots wonderful for colour )
thanks again

grrr
budweiser took over the sponsorship of the derby years ago.
all the sports are sponsored by drink related businesses now,
I thinkhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif
everything is very much changed
but it's ok.
get a lot of visitors especially from the states
only that I heard most of these accents (irishhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif ) I would say these people in the photos were from far off lands too
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
loved watching
was only there for the beer
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif joke joke
as you know I don't drink http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif so I was able to stay sober while taking the shots
I got in after the big main race
cycled up
didn't feel like it (cycling)
as it was a very hot afternoon I was flat out in the lovely back garden , full of blooms,
but pushed myself http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
the cars buses and helicoptors take up all the land around so my bicycle was like a little dot in between them all.
great for getting around
I met people looking for their cars and I offered them a lift on the back of the bike
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif had great fun with everyone
I think they were all plastered
joke joke
cycled home past the limo's etc etc
some honked and waved at me
remembering getting their picture taken
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
the bike had a puncture when I got back to it though
and the flat back wheel was noisy when riding
beautiful beautiful weather
loved the style
they danced the night away in a hotel out across the road

I like to take shots of the beautiful women Cameron
I want to share them . you can enjoy it with good health
and thank you for saying
so many of them and all together http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif
and their beautiful dresses and style
so many ,so little time
(to shoot)http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
the fellows must have been in heaven
they all looked well
I was squashed in between the crowds coming and going ,
so much so that I took a lot of shots of their beautiful feet and shoes
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
I was happy enough doing that.
just gazing down while trying to move on a little further
most of them ended up barefooted http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
lovely sight , the women walking barefoot on the grass on the plains (where I walk every evening with the dog)
in those flowing beautiful dresseshttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
glad I pushed myself to go and take the shots
every year the whole scene is wonderful
especially if the weather is perfect
as it was yesterday
(and today still)
I never even saw a racehorse at the derby
never mind back one Cameron

Great shots Marie, lovely colours. I love the red hat in the second last one, not much to it, but it probably cost a fortune :) The Derby looks much more glamourous than the Tug of War championsip I was at :p In fact I think you could say it was the complete oppisite end of the spectrum.
I love the idea of you arriving on your bike, I bet there were not many in the photos with high heels and hats that arrived that way :)
Looks like they were all pleased to have their photos taken, which is great I hate trying to sneak shots, especally if I am caught

thank you Daragh
I loved the hat colour also
it suited her
pity about the 'pole' behind it but the photo is just to give an idea of the fashion
many wore hats something like it
I think that famous designer in Galway (Phil Costello?) may have sold many hats for the derby
It is awkward trying not to be noticed with a camera..
any kind
they loved their pictures being taken .
I expect that's what it's all about really
they were prepared to be noticed
even r.t.e's radio sports commentator was so nice and introduced me to the jockey of the winner of the derby itself
when they were passing by me at one stage
the tug of war must have been great fun
my sister and I drove up to relations in Cavan many times over the years
( I have a lot of relations in county monaghan)
her late husband has a brother (and his wife )living in Shercock , County Cavan and she has many other relations (of her husband's ) living there all over the county
the lakes are so beautiful all around
it's a lovely trip through the countryside, although it was a long one for you
thanks

Sounds great, you should have got a tip from him.
I was never in Cavan before, or at least I never stopped there, I was pleasantly surprised how close it is, Virginia only about 60 miles, we went on to Ballyconnell which is a lot further. I tis a lovely county, not flat at all, great lakes and there seems to be more trees around than usual. We went thru Belturbet where my mother lived nearly 70 years ago and I always assumed was a one horse village (with a pub :-) ), I was amazed to see it is a large triving town.
Back to the photos, nice work, you get some great casual shots of people that always say so much more than the picture appears to show.

Btw, did you happen to use photoshop shadow/highlight tool ?

thank you very much Feihung
I used shadow/highlight alright
not sure if I done it to your liking thoughhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif Your welcome!
And it's not done to my "disliking" that's for sure! ;)
Have you messed with the "Levels" adjustment tool instead of the 'shadow/highlight'? You may find that it doesn't mess with the colors nearly as much. But your shots seem to be very sharp.....are they that way before any adjustments are made?
Thanks!

Maire, I think I would tone down the amount of shadow/highlight tool that you use.
I think it tends to take away some depth and pop, and can sometimes alter the colour a little too much (my opinion only). As they say, a little goes a long way!

the colours and sharpness were there straight out of the camera Rich , thanks
colours were really bright , the sunshine was toohttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
I used levels alright.
a lot of shadows around the place
as the crowds were very tight together to get pictures. shadows are falling everywhere
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
along with a lot of other thingshttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
I was trying to set the camera before I left ,as I knew I had had wb on 'cloudy' from another day. but I couldn't find certain things I wanted to do (with the camera)
the settings.
I tend to forget where everything is (background settings)
(repeating myself http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif ) especially when in a hurry
I was in a big hurry, having decided to go at all.
I left it and put them in the bag (2 cameras ) as I was fiddling around
( with the camera )http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
after I got ready myself
it was taking up precious time, so I ran , hoped for the best
and then forgot about it http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif
raced up on the bicycle as the main race was over and I wanted to catch (picture) of all the people watching the last race from the stands along with getting them all before they left
some were already leaving as I cycled up.
(those who could not find their cars among the thousands)
thanks a lot Rich
I still won't get it right in future shots though
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
I think the problem is the white balance
it was too blue

thank you very much Drisley.
I understand it's not always easy saying anything to anyone about what we see may be wrong , so it's very nice of you to take the time.
I will watch what you say.
it was difficult
I found doing anything to the pictures only made them worse.
I love colour, but not blaring
sometimes I change the tone down to a more yellow (y) look as I did with a shot of the taxi's (I like that for myself)
I think a lot of the problem here is the white balance setting, it was set to cloudy.
today is dark and cloudy so I will leave the setting
not that I will be taking any shots
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
I tend to forget the wb.
with weather conditions changing so much, it's a full time jobhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

great that you got to visit it at last
