I recently got an S230 and have been taking lots of pictures and doing lots of experimentation. I’m getting more into photography and as a result wondering what I’m missing by using a mostly, automatic, point and shoot camera. Most of the time I get decent pictures, so what will a more manual/better camera do for me? What are the limitations of my S230 camera (besides the pixel density)? What would be a would be a good camera progression (preferably Canon) once I’m ready to move on?

hi, theres lots of limitations to this little camera, but you wont find out till you try and use it in manual mode and really try all the settings, you dont seem happy with this camera, may i ask what you're looking for? before switching over to the DSLRs,you will have to know first what you want this particular camera to do, that it cant.
i read in your post that you took pretty decent pics with this little one ,so why switch.
i use this camera and i'm happy with the images that i took with it. also i couldn't afford the DSLRs,thats why i bought this V3.wish i could upload a sample here, but i'm really ignorant with computers. shoot some more and maybe your photos will get better.at least u dont have to buy film and have it processed. happy shooting......pc

The only issue I have with this camera is the taking of action shots. You can't control shutter speed directly. You have to trick it into quicker speeds using light exposure and ISO, etc.
Other than that, I love this camera. Here's a recent pick that I think turned out very nice. This is my car. I happened to have my camera with me, and noticed while sitting on the deck of a restaurant that my car was below.

Animator... that is hilarious. It got a laugh out of me. :)
Houston is great this time of year. I'm guessing in August I'll be posting that I wish I was where you are!
AndreyD, Thanks for the compliment. It's a very fun car.
