I have used PhotoShop for some time but have just gone digital with a great 20D. When using a borrowed 10D the files I opened in PS showed 180dpi at 3072x2048 pixels. When I resized to 300dpi it quickly resized and made image size 12x8 inches which is ideal for my printing. With the 20D on different image file size settings the imported image is 72 dpi and for large normal is 3504x2336 pixels ie 48x32 inches. It takes quite a while to resize to 300dpi. I would really appreciate advise on working with files from 20D

With the 20D camera and Canon utilities, the conversion from RAW to TIF will take care of the 300 DPI change automatically if you want it to.

Best bet is to COMPLETELY ignore the DPI setting until you are actually going to print the image..
The DPI you see in Photoshop or other photoediting software is the 'proposed' print size.. It's plugged in as a default by the camera.. It has NOTHING to do with the actual pixels in the image or the quality of the image.
Your ultimate DPI is the number of pixels in the file divided by the number of inches you plan on printing it at.. If you check the DPI that shows in Photoshop, you'll see that it's nothing more than pixels divided by the proposed print size in inches.. (You can't have DPI without inches)
Until the image is actually printed on paper, it's only pixels.
