I was testing the 85mm 1.8 DOF. Instead of the usual ruler/chart, I brought in my little girl next to a chain link fence. I think this sort of 'live' test is more practical, hope it interests you.

Great shot!
It does show how short the dof actually is at wider apertures.

I love it. She has that "ahh come on Dad no more pictures" look on her face.

Excellent shot. Now why doesn't B&H have any more of these lenses. It's been weeks!!

Mine run and hide now. My wife threatens me with pain of death if I photograph her.
Must try a self-portrait!

Wait till they are old enough to understand model releases and fee, they might start charging us for the shots. LOL.
Thx everyone. And yes, I use a bit of USM after resizing.

Seriously, though, I have the same problem. My 4.5 year old daughter will not be photographed. If she sees the camera she hides or makes faces. I know it's a phase but its frustrating. I've tried bribery... I can get candids (the 20D is very fast), what I can't get are portraits. Anyone with experience have any suggestions?

Yeah, I'm loving mine as well. How far from her would you say that you were for this shot?

I'd say it was about 10 to 12 feet looking at.
But i could be wrong

It was about 15~17 ft. I did crop a bit off the right side, she was in the middle of the frame. So Sean is pretty close.
