I couldn't make up my mind on the Sigma 2.8 my wife ordered , so I canceled and re-ordered a Sigma 100-300 f/4 APO HSM!
Mainly of the following reasons:
90% Of my shooting will be outdoors for soccer and I will need the reach, and here in TX that usualy means bright skies. Even on dim days this lens performs great according to all the reviews..not a low light lens but overcast days aren't an issue.
I also figure if I need to shoot indoors, I won't need a long reach so I could go with a smaller lens at 2.8 or better.
And the price tag helps at 759.00

Let me know if ya think it was a wise choice or not..also ordered a Monfrotto 679b monopod.

I don't know the lens, but you have made a very rational arguement for it.

You have done your research and I am sure it will serve you well.

Good choice.

Got the 679 but in chrome, its shiney. Its a nice light weight pod. Stronge too, can be use for cattle prodding. What head are you planning to put on it??? Skip the Action grip its really heavy. The 3D Magnesium is nice and light.

Nice choice ... I went through the superb 70-200mm f4 (which Blue-Max now has and loves), 70-200mm f2.8, Bigma, 80-400 OS and finally the 100-300mm f4. The best of the range and works beautifully with the Sigma 1.4mm. Wow, that's an amazing price for this lens, at least for us in the UK.

It improves being well mounted, or keep the shutter speed up at 1/800 handheld. Experiment as it takes a while to really get the best from the lens. Try manual settings ... just play around and you will be rewarded with some top draw images.

This is a seriously tempting lens that we don't hear enough about. Do any of you guys have online images from the lens or -better still- dirct comparisons against other lenses?

No doubt, one fantastic lens. This is one of those Sigma "gems".

Well I would be happy to test it against any other lens, if I had one worth it lol.
But I will of course post some shots, stills, action, low light, when it comes in.
