I got my first camera, Canon 40d and 50mm mk1, this past fall. This was the first snowboarding event I have done and I wanted to get some C&C on how to improve and eventually get to the level where I can sell some images to resorts or magazines.

I know I need a wider lens and am working on a 10-24, so that will be fun for the future.

Thanks:

These are good snap shots, but fall short IMO of being sellable photos. Need to crop many, and blur out the background, watch composure.. keep shooting!

Thanks,

Can you give me some tips on crop/composition? I cropped all of these, but didn't want to lose the snow and features for the tricks. Also, I was shooting at ISO 400 specifically so I could be at f8-f11 and 1/250-500. Just wondering why a larger aperture would help these photos. I just ask because I almost always see really large depth of field used for pro snowboarding stuff.

Thanks again, I appreciate the help.

Also, here are a couple shots from someone else that got used on the Volcom website for the event:
