Where is the beach.... :) ???
If it is the pattern of concrete posts you are after then there is too much distraction in the background. The pattern is not "strong" enough and does not go on long enough to be interesting. The background is too small to see what is going on. The only thing attractive is the blue sky with clouds. Sorry I cannot be more positive about your first post. Welcome! And keep shooting!

Second one is a bit better. Few things to play with:
- try shooting under less harsh light: these photos have too much contrast
- more often than not, try to shoot the sunlit side of things (as in your first photo, but there's little detail in the side of the poles facing the camera in your second photo)
- experiment with putting the main elements in the photo - like the horizon - somewhere other than dead-bang-smack in the middle vertically (for example, the closest, nearest pole in your first photo looks great set in slightly from the side, and would look terrible in the middle
- think about where the converging lines are leading the viewer's eye:
- in the first picture, they take the viewer's eye out of the picture at centre left
- in the second picture, they converge into the middle of the image: again something less central can give an interesting effect: a third in from sides is often a good place to start.
- check your horizons are straight... I think both these need a clockwise rotation?
Cheers,
Tony

I think the first one might work better as a B&W so that the color is not in play and the image is more abstracted from the actual scene. The second one is definitely a stronger composition, and might also work better as a B&W.
