These are some good shots. Are all L-10's retired now? I just learned about that Delta crash at DFW a few days ago in class and wondered if they were still being used.

My 16 year old niece shot these images... She did a good job. Will she be back?

I'm told that this was the last of the planes in the US. She'd been sitting in Roswell NM for 3 years. We had quite a time convincing the FAA she was airworthy (took a year) so we could get a ferry permit to bring her to the museum. She'd undergone a recent interior renovation and is gorgeous. I'll be down shooting video the last 1/2 of the week and I'll get some interior shots.

We certainly hope my niece Kelcy will be back. She's got considerable natural talent. Now I just need to teach her how to use a camera.

As of early last year the RAF was still operating them. I would imagine they would still be in the air today.

She will be missed!

Neat shots! I reckon the L-1011's were retired for fuel cost issues now that most airlines are flying twins and they can use them on ETOPS.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll do some more investigation.

That is correct, there aren't any more L-1011's in the US, but there are still 19 of them in operational service throughout the rest of the world. A good half of that number is military use.

nice shot..sad to see the tri-holers dwindling. I fly the competitor (kc-10) but have always appreciated the looks and advancements the Tristar brought to the table. Ahead of its time!

What was the particular history of this tail? Ex Delta?

Nice pictures, great that you caught this one.

I photographed the Orbital Stargazer L-1011 in 2008 at Kona Hawaii while carrying a Pegasus rocket. Has that one been retired, it occasionally flies out of Edwards AFB?

I flew transatlantic in a TWA L-10 many years ago. It was an impressive plane.

Isn't there also a flying eye clinic (ala Doctors Without Borders) somewhere that's in an L-10?

Pretty sure I've seen it on the ramp down at Tucson International from time to time.

I think Orbital Sciences is still using their L-1011 as a launch and science platform.

It's not retired. It flew a few weeks ago and it's based at Mojave Airport.

Yes there is a L1011 at TIA it's a flying hospital. It took off about two months ago and circled the city a few times then landed. Occasionally I can see them run up th engines and taxi it around the airport. I wish it would show up on Flightaware so I could run out to the parking lot and grab some pics.

This one came into to Davis Monthan a few days ago. I caught it while I was at the lake and it flew right over.

The Tristar is still used by the RAF.... as is the very old smokey VC-10
Both are used for aerial tankers and cargo/passenger transport.

That pic of the one at Davis Monthan trailed RAF Tornado GR4s to the air base for Ex Torpedo Focus.

Great shots of the L-10. I need to get down to the museum more often. Many years ago I volunteered some hours in the restoration project for their DC-3. Great group down there.
